    TOP STORY

Inherent Mosaicism and Extensive Mutation of Human Placentas

Scientists investigated the phylogeny of human placental cells as reconstructed from somatic mutations, using whole-genome sequencing of 86 bulk placental samples and of 106 microdissections of placental tissue.

MSCs Derived from Amniotic Fluid and Umbilical Cord Require Different Administration Schemes and Exert Different Curative Effects on Different Tissues in Rats with CLP-Induced Sepsis

Investigators generated rats with medium-grade sepsis with a 30–40% survival rate to study the curative effects of amniotic fluid-MSCs and umbilical cord-MSCs. MSCs reversed cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced changes in proinflammatory cytokine levels and coagulation activation.

H3K9ac of TGFβRI in Human Umbilical Cord: A Potential Biomarker for Evaluating Cartilage Differentiation and Susceptibility to Osteoarthritis via a Two-Step Strategy

Two kinds of Wharton’s jelly-MSCs were applied to evaluate their chondrogenic potential in vitro through inducing chondrogenic differentiation as the first step of the strategy, one from newborns with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and the other from normal newborns but treated with excessive cortisol during differentiation to simulate the excessive maternal glucocorticoid in the IUGR newborns.

Effects of the Secretome of Human Wharton’s Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cells on the Proliferation and Apoptosis Gene Expression of the Retinal Pigmented Epithelium

Scientists evaluated the effect of the conditioned medium secreted by human Wharton’s jelly MSCs on the proliferation and apoptosis gene expression of the retinal pigmented epithelium.

    Abstract

Biological Characteristics and Metabolic Profile of Canine Mesenchymal Stem Cells Isolated from Adipose Tissue and Umbilical Cord Matrix

Researchers compared the characteristics of canine adipose tissue and umbilical cord matrix MSCs. For the first time in the dog, the cellular bioenergetics were investigated by evaluating the two main metabolic pathways of ATP production.

Prolactin Modifies the In Vitro LPS-Induced Chemotactic Capabilities in Human Fetal Membranes at the Term of Gestation

Fetal membranes and umbilical cord blood were collected from healthy non‐laboring cesarean deliveries at term. Fetal membranes were culture in Transwell® frames to mimic the barrier function between choriodecidual and amniotic sides.

    Abstract

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Enhance AQP1 Expression in the Sublingual Salivary Gland of Ovariectomized Menopausal Rat Model

Homing of human umbilical cord-MSCs was detected by fluorescence microscopy and examination of immunostained sections for human CD105 and CD34 were performed.

Influence of Piper betle L. Extract on Umbilical Cord Cells In Vitro and Potential Treating Cutaneous Wound

Scientists tested the effects of Piper betle L. from Vietnam on fibroblasts and umbilical cord (UC)-derived mesenchymal stem cells from human UC on the scratch assay.

Association of Umbilical Cord Management Strategies With Outcomes of Preterm Infants: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis

Compared with immediate umbilical cord clamping, delayed umbilical cord clamping, umbilical cord milking were associated with reductions in intraventricular hemorrhage and need for packed red cell transfusion.

    Abstract

Applications of Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Skin Regeneration and Rejuvenation

Skin aging is a process that occurs naturally but can be worsened by environmental pollution, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, alcohol consumption, tobacco use, and undernourishment. MSCs have healing capacities that can be applied in damaged and aged skin.
