    TOP STORY
Regulation of Ecto-Apyrase CD39 (ENTPD1) Expression by Phosphodiesterase III (PDE3)
RAW macrophages and human umbilical vein endothelial cells were treated with the PDE3 inhibitors cilostazol and milrinone, then analyzed using qRT-PCR, immunoprecipitation/Western blot, immunofluorescent staining, radio-thin-layer chromatography, a malachite green assay, and ELISA. [FASEB J] Abstract

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Low Immunogenicity of Neural Progenitor Cells Differentiated from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Derived from Less Immunogenic Somatic Cells
Scientists differentiated induced pluripotent stem cells from human umbilical cord mesenchymal cells and skin fibroblasts into neural progenitor cells and analyzed their immunogenicity. [PLoS One] Full Article

PIMT Prevents the Apoptosis of Endothelial Cells in Response to Glycated Low Density Lipoproteins and Protective Effects of Grape Seed Procyanidin B2
The authors hypothesized that Protein L-isoaspartyl methyltransferase (PIMT) plays a critical role in glycated low density lipoproteins (gly-LDL) induced vascular endothelial cell (VEC) apoptosis and that grape seed procyanidin B2 protects against gly-LDL induced VEC apoptosis through PIMT regulation. [PLoS One]

A Truncated Flt1 Isoform that Activates Src and Promotes Invasion in Breast Cancer Cells Is Upregulated by Notch-1 and Notch-3 and Downregulated by miR-200c and Retinoic Acid
Scientists report that the expression of isoform transcribed from intron 21 Flt1 in HUVEC and MDA-MB-231 cells is downregulated by the γ-secretase inhibitor DAPT. [J Cell Biochem] Abstract

Vascular Endothelial Cell Injury Partly Induced by Mesenteric Lymph in Heat Stroke
Mesenteric lymph, collected pre-, during, and post-heat stroke, was analyzed for biological activity on human umbilical vein endothelial cell in vitro. [Inflammation] Abstract

Human Unrestricted Somatic Stem Cell Administration Fails to Protect Nude Mice from Cisplatin-Induced Acute Kidney Injury
In spite of beneficial effects on other disease models, the renoprotective potential of human cord blood-derived unrestricted somatic stem cells (USSC) has not been examined so far. Acute kidney failure was induced in female nude mice and the effect of USSC transplantation on kidney function and structure was assessed. [Nephron Exp Nephrol] Abstract

Wharton’s Jelly-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Promote Myocardial Regeneration and Cardiac Repair after Miniswine Acute Myocardial Infarction
Researchers investigated the therapeutic effects of Wharton’s jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells on myocardial regeneration and cardiac repair after acute myocardial infarction. [Coron Artery Dis] Abstract

Umbilical Cord Tissue Mesenchymal Stem Cells: Characterization and Clinical Applications
Umbilical cord tissue (CT) is currently being used in several regenerative medicine clinical studies, examples of which include treatment of graft-versus-host disease and non-healing bone fractures. CT represents an additional source of stem cells that have both immediate and future applications for the individual donor. [Curr Stem Cell Res Ther] Abstract
