    TOP STORY
Vascular Progenitors from Cord Blood-Derived iPSC Possess Augmented Capacity for Regenerating Ischemic Retinal Vasculature
To evaluate the potential of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) for treating ischemic retinopathies, researchers generated vascular progenitors from a repertoire of viral-integrated and non-integrated fibroblast and cord blood-derived hiPSC lines, and tested their capacity for homing and engrafting into murine retina in an ischemia-reperfusion model. [Circulation] Abstract

PUBLICATIONS ( Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Transplantation of Cryopreserved Human Umbilical Cord Blood Mononuclear Cells Does Not Induce Sustained Recovery after Experimental Stroke in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats
Researchers investigated the neurorestorative potential of cryopreserved human umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells after permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion in spontaneously hypertensive rats. [J Cereb Blood Flow Metab] Abstract

Contralateral Extremities Benefit from Locally Administered Bone Marrow-Derived Mononuclear Cells and Cord Blood Serum in Diabetic Ischemic Wound Healing
Impaired wound healing could be a disaster especially in diabetes and amputation is the major risk. Investigators evaluated the benefit of bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells and cord blood serum on wound healing. [Stem Cell Rev Rep] Abstract

Human Umbilical Cord Blood-Derived CD34 Positive Endothelial Progenitor Cells Stimulate Osteoblastic Differentiation of Cultured Human Periosteal-Derived Osteoblasts
Investigators examined the effects of human umbilical cord blood-derived CD34 positive endothelial progenitor cells on osteoblastic differentiation of cultured human periosteal-derived osteoblasts. [Tissue Eng Part A] Abstract

Transplantation of Umbilical Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells into the Striata of R6/2 Mice: Behavioral and Neuropathological Analysis
Mesenchymal stem cells, isolated from the umbilical cord of day 15 gestation pups, were transplanted intrastriatally into 5-week-old R6/2 mice at either a low-passage or high-passage. Mice were tested behaviorally for 6 weeks using the rotarod task, the Morris water maze, and the limb-clasping response. [Stem Cell Res Ther] Abstract | Full Article

Conditioned Medium as a Strategy for Human Stem Cells Chondrogenic Differentiation
The authors aimed to achieve chondrogenic differentiation of two different sources of stem cells using conditioned medium, without adding growth factors. They tested both human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells and human Wharton’s jelly-derived stem cells. [Tissue Eng Regen Med] Abstract

Cotransplantation of Human Umbilical Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Umbilical Cord Blood-Derived CD34+ Cells in a Rabbit Model of Myocardial Infarction
Scientists investigated the effect of hypoxic preconditioning on the immunomodulatory properties of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) and the effect of cotransplantation of hUC-MSCs and human umbilical cord blood-derived CD34+ cells in a rabbit model of myocardial infarction. [Mol Cell Biochem] Abstract

Neuronal Cell Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Originating from Canine Amniotic Fluid
Researchers investigated whether canine amniotic-fluid-derived mesenchymal stem cells can differentiate into neural precursor cells in vitro when exposed to neural induction reagent. [Hum Cell] Full Article

Stem Cell Therapy to Protect and Repair the Developing Brain: A Review of Mechanisms of Action of Cord Blood and Amnion Epithelial Derived Cells
The authors explored the novel characteristics of human amnion epithelial cells and undifferentiated umbilical cord blood (UCB) cells, as well as UCB-derived endothelial progenitor cells and mesenchymal stem cells, and how immunomodulation and anti-inflammatory properties are principal mechanisms of action that are common to these cells, and which in turn may ameliorate the cerebral hypoxia and inflammation that are final pathways in the pathogenesis of perinatal brain injury.
