    TOP STORY
Incidence, Risk Factors, and Clinical Outcome of Leukemia Relapses with Loss of the Mismatched HLA after Partially-Incompatible Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Genomic loss of the mismatched HLA is a recently described mechanism of leukemia immune escape and relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Investigators evaluated its incidence, risk factors, and outcome in 233 consecutive transplants from partially HLA-mismatched related and unrelated donors. [Leukemia] Abstract

Osteogenic Differentiation of Human Amniotic Epithelial Cells and Its Application in Alveolar Defect Restoration
Researchers investigated the detailed in vitro osteogenic differentiation process and in vivo bone regenerative property of human amniotic epithelial cells. [Stem Cells Transl Med] Abstract

Differentiation of Human Umbilical Cord Matrix Mesenchymal Stem Cells into Neural-Like Progenitor Cells and Maturation into an Oligodendroglial-Like Lineage
Mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from the umbilical cord matrix (Wharton’s jelly) of human umbilical cord samples. The cells were additionally subjected to an oligodendroglial-oriented step-wise differentiation protocol in order to test their neural- and oligodendroglial-like differentiation capacity. Successful Early Unmanipulated Haploidentical Transplantation with Reduced-Intensity Conditioning for Primary Graft Failure after Cord Blood Transplantation in Hematologic Malignancy Patients
Investigators analyzed 17 hematologic malignancy patients who received unmanipulated haploidentical peripheral blood and BM transplantation with reduced-intensity conditioning as a salvage therapy for primary graft failure after cord blood transplantation. [Bone Marrow Transplant] Abstract

Pre-Transplantation Risk Factors to Develop Sclerotic Chronic GvHD after Allogeneic HSCT: A Multicenter Retrospective Study from the Société Française de Greffe de Moelle et de Thérapie Cellulaire (SFGM-TC)
Sclerotic chronic GvHD (cGvHD) is one of the most severe complications after allo-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In univariate analysis, researchers found a significantly lower number of sclerotic cGvHD form in patients transplanted from cord blood cells, in patients with one mismatched donor and in patients who had received antithymocyte globulin in the conditioning regimen. [Bone Marrow Transplant] Abstract

Comparison of Umbilical Cord Serum and Amniotic Membrane Transplantation in Acute Ocular Chemical Burns
Scientists compared the efficacy of umbilical cord serum (UCS) with amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) in cases of acute ocular chemical burns. UCS and AMT groups showed early epithelialization as compared with the conventional medical group. [Br J Ophthalmol] Abstract

Accelerated Regeneration of Skin Injury by Co-Transplantation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Wharton’s Jelly of the Human Umbilical Cord Mixed with Microparticles
Investigators explored a new strategy for repairing skin wounds: co-transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells from Wharton’s jelly of the human umbilical cord and microparticles. [Cell Biochem Biophys] Abstract

Differentiation of Schwann-Like Cells from Human Umbilical Cord Blood Mesenchymal Stem Cells In Vitro
Investigators established a method of inducing directional differentiation of human umbilical cord blood (hUCB) mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) into Schwann-like cells. Cells isolated from hUCB were cultured in MesenCult complete medium, a specialized culture medium for MSCs, to expand hUCBMSCs. [Mol Med Rep] Abstract
