    TOP STORY
Fgf and Esrrb Integrate Epigenetic and Transcriptional Networks that Regulate Self-Renewal of Trophoblast Stem Cells
Scientists showed that in trophoblast stem (TS) cells, Esrrb is a downstream target of fibroblast growth factor (fgf) signaling and is critical to drive TS cell self-renewal. In contrast to its occupancy of pluripotency-associated loci in embryonic stem cells, Esrrb sustained the stemness of TS cells by direct binding and regulation of TS cell-specific transcription factors including Elf5 and Eomes. PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Activation of OCT4 Enhances Ex Vivo Expansion of Human Cord Blood Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cells by Regulating HOXB4 Expression
Researchers present the finding that OCT4 is involved in the enhancement of cytokine-induced expansion capabilities of human cord blood hematopoietic stem cells. [Leukemia] Abstract

Long-Term Sustained Disease Control in Patients with Mantle Cell Lymphoma with or without Active Disease after Treatment with Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation after Nonmyeloablative Conditioning
Investigators examined the outcomes of 70 patients with mantle cell lymphoma and included extended follow-up for the 33 initial patients. Grafts were obtained from human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-matched, related donors, unrelated donors, and HLA antigen-mismatched donors. [Cancer] Abstract

Safety of Intracoronary Human Cord Blood Stem Cells in a Lamb Model of Infant Cardiopulmonary Bypass
Investigators evaluated the acute safety, functional effects, and fate of human cord blood mononuclear cells in a novel model of coronary vasculature delivery in a lamb model of infant cardiopulmonary bypass. [Ann Thorac Surg] Abstract

Dendritic Cells Differentiated from Human Umbilical Cord Blood-Derived Monocytes Exhibit Tolerogenic Characteristics
The authors investigated the phenotypes and functions of umbilical cord blood monocyte-derived dendritic cells (DCs) in comparison with those of adult peripheral blood monocyte-derived DCs. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Association between Non-Dominant Unit Total Nucleated Cell Dose and Engraftment in Myeloablative Double-Unit Cord Blood Transplantation
To investigate the associations between non-dominant unit characteristics and neutrophil engraftment, investigators studied 129 consecutive myeloablative double-unit cord blood transplantation recipients. [Biol Blood Marrow Transplant] Abstract

Do Hypoxia/Normoxia Culturing Conditions Change the Neuroregulatory Profile of Wharton Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cell Secretome?
Scientists examined the effects of normoxic and hypoxic conditions on the human umbilical cord Wharton Jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells secretome. Subsequently, they addressed the impact of the distinct secretome in the neuronal cell survival and differentiation of human neural progenitor cells. [Stem Cell Res Ther] Abstract

Wound-Healing Potential of Human Umbilical Cord Blood-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells In Vitro-A Pilot Study
Researchers compared the wound-healing activity of human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stromal cells with that of fibroblasts. [Cytotherapy] Abstract

Enhancement of Angiogenic Effects by Hypoxia-Preconditioned Human Umbilical Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in a Mouse Model of Hindlimb Ischemia
Scientists compared the efficacy of hypoxia preconditioned human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) and normoxia conditioned hUC-MSCs for the treatment of ischemic injury in hindlimbs of an immunodeficient mouse model. [Cell Biol Int] Abstract
