    TOP STORY
Non-Integrating Episomal Plasmid-Based Reprogramming of Human Amniotic Fluid Stem Cells into Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells in Chemically Defined Conditions
The authors describe non-integrative oriP/EBNA-1 episomal plasmid-based reprogramming of amniotic fluid stem cells into iPSC and culture in fully chemically defined xeno-free conditions represented by vitronectin coating and E8 medium. [Cell Cycle] Abstract
Standardize Your CFU Assays With STEMvision for Automated CFU Assay Imaging and Analysis

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Gemtuzumab Ozogamicin Reduces Relapse Risk in FLT3/ITD Acute Myeloid Leukemia: A Report from the Children’s Oncology Group
Researchers evaluated the impact of the addition of gemtuzumab ozogamicin to standard chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplant in patients with FLT3/ITD. [Clin Cancer Res] Abstract

Improvement of Overall Survival after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Children and Adolescents: A Three-Decade Experience of a Single Institution
Researchers analyzed changes in patient profile, transplantation, graft characteristics and outcome among 250 children and adolescent patients who received allogeneic stem cell transplantation in a single center. [Bone Marrow Transplant] Abstract

Packed Bed Bioreactor for the Isolation and Expansion of Placental-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells
Researchers demonstrated that placental derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells could be isolated directly within the bioreactor and subsequently expanded. [PLoS One] Abstract

Engraftment for CD34 Selected Stem Cell Products Is Not Compromised by Cryopreservation
To test whether cryopreservation of the CD34+ selected product compromises a graft, investigators compared neutrophil and platelet engraftment kinetics for patients receiving freshly infused or cryopreserved products. Seventy-two products collected from haploidentical related donors were CD34+ selected and infused in a combined transplant with umbilical cord blood: 32 were cryopreserved before infusion and 40 were infused fresh. [Transfusion] Abstract

Effect of Fetal Membrane-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cell Transplantation in Rats with Acute and Chronic Pancreatitis
The authors investigated the effect of rat fetal membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and human amnion-derived MSCs on the inflammatory reaction in vitro and therapeutic effects in rats with acute and chronic pancreatitis. [Pancreas] Abstract

Role of Second Transplantation for Children with Acute Myeloid Leukemia following Posttransplantation Relapse
The authors analyzed 46 children with acute myeloid leukemia who underwent a second allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) after achieving a second remission. The median duration from the first to second HSCT was 20 months, and the source of the second HSCT was related bone marrow (BM) in 22, related peripheral blood in six, unrelated BM in 14, and unrelated cord blood in four patients. [Pediatr Blood Cancer] Abstract

Expression Analysis of Radiation-Responsive Genes in Human Hematopoietic Stem/Progenitor Cells
Researchers analyzed the gene expression profiles detected in hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) irradiated with 2 Gy X-rays after culture with or without an optimal combination of hematopoietic cytokines. Highly purified CD34+ cells from human placental/umbilical cord blood were used as HSPCs. [J Radiat Res] Abstract

    REVIEWS
Molecular Landscapes of Human Hematopoietic Stem Cells in Health and Leukemia
Scientists outline the current understanding of the molecular programs that govern human hematopoietic stem cells and how dynamic changes occurring during hematopoietic stem cells differentiation are necessary for well-regulated blood formation under homeostasis and upon injury. [Ann N Y Acad Sci] Abstract
