    TOP STORY
Autophagy Proteins ATG5 and ATG7 Are Essential for the Maintenance of Human CD34+ Hematopoietic Stem-Progenitor Cells
Researchers demonstrated that umbilical cord blood-derived CD34+/CD38 immature hematopoietic progenitors show a higher autophagic flux than CD34+/CD38+ progenitors and more differentiated myeloid and erythroid cells. [Stem Cells] Abstract

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Time Related Variations in Stem Cell Harvesting of Umbilical Cord Blood
Scientists retrospectively analyzed 17.936 cord blood donations collected from 1999 to 2011. Results from generalized multivariable linear mixed models showed that cord blood volume, total nucleated cells and CD34+ cells were associated with known obstetric and neonatal parameters and showed rhythmic patterns in different time domains and frequency ranges. Comparison of Transplant Outcomes from Matched Sibling Bone Marrow or Peripheral Blood Stem Cell and Unrelated Cord Blood in Patients 50 Years or Older
The authors retrospectively analyzed Japanese registration data of 2,091 patients with acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and myelodysplastic syndrome aged 50 years or older who underwent matched sibling donors (MSD) bone marrow transplantation, MSD peripheral blood stem cell transplantation, or unrelated cord blood transplantation. [Am J Hematol] Abstract

Equine Amniotic Microvesicles and Their Anti-Inflammatory Potential in a Tenocyte Model In Vitro
The presence and type of microvesicles (MVs) secreted by amniotic mesenchymal cells was investigated and the response of equine tendon cells to MVs was studied using a dose-response curve at different concentrations and different times. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Human Amniotic Mesenchymal Stem Cells Alleviate Lung Injury Induced by Ischemia and Reperfusion after Cardiopulmonary Bypass in Dogs
Investigators assessed the capacity of human amniotic MSCs to ameliorate ischemia/reperfusion injury in a dog model of cardiopulmonary bypass. [Lab Invest] Abstract

Frequency and Risk Factors Associated with Cord Graft Failure (CGF) after Transplant with Single Unit Umbilical Cord Cells Supplemented by Haploidentical Cells (Haplo-Cord) with Reduced-Intensity Conditioning
Scientists described the frequency, complications and risk factors of CGF following reduced-intensity conditioning haplo-cord hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. [Biol Blood Marrow Transplant] Article

Comparative Analysis of MicroRNA Expression in Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Umbilical Cord and Cord Blood
Investigators found that microRNAs significantly repressed insulin signaling in cord blood mesenchymal stem cells (CBMSCs), while neuronal related processes were more repressed in CBMSCs. [Genomics] Abstract

Isolation and Culture of Embryonic Stem Cells, Mesenchymal Stem Cells, and Dendritic Cells from Humans and Mice
Researchers described the methods of isolating and culturing various types of stem cells, like human embryonic stem cells, human umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stem cells, murine bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells, murine adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells, and murine bone marrow derived dendritic cells. Regain Control of p53: Targeting Leukemia Stem Cells by Isoform-Specific HDAC Inhibition
The authors summarize the current understanding of various mechanisms underlying deregulation of histone deacetylases (HDACs), which could be exploited to restore p53 activity and enhance targeting of leukemia stem cells in molecularly defined patient subsets. [Exp Hematol] Abstract
