    Researchers have identified a new mechanism by which cells are instructed during development to become stem cells.     Substance P Enhances EPC Mobilization for Accelerated Wound Healing
    Researchers demonstrated that neuropeptide substance P (SP) accelerates the wound healing process, particularly in the skin. Subcutaneous treatment of SP accelerated wound closing, increased the population of α-smooth muscle actin positive myofibroblasts, and increased extracellular matrix deposition at the wound site.     Multipotency of Melanoblasts Isolated from Murine Skin Depends on the Notch Signal Pathway
    Investigators showed that melanoblasts (MBs) isolated from mouse skin were multipotent, generating neurons and glial cells together with melanocytes. Using Sox10-IRES-Venus mice and mouse ES cells, they investigated how MBs expressed their multipotency. [Dev Dyn] Abstract

    ΔNp63 Regulates IL-33 and IL-31 Signaling in Atopic Dermatitis

    BRAF Inhibitor Resistance Enhances Vulnerability to Arginine Deprivation in Melanoma
    Researchers demonstrated that BRAF inhibitor-resistant melanomas are susceptible to arginine deprivation due to inability to initiate re-expression of argininosuccinate synthetase as well as ineffective autophagy. [Oncotarget] Full Article

    Acyl Protein Thioesterase 1 and 2 (APT-1, APT-2) Inhibitors Palmostatin B, ML348 and ML349 Have Different Effects on NRAS Mutant Melanoma Cells
    Scientists investigated the expression and function of NRAS depalmitoylating APT-1 and APT-2 in a panel of NRAS mutant melanoma cells. They showed that all melanoma cell lines examined express APT-1 and APT-2.[Oncotarget] Full Article

    Silvestrol Induces Early Autophagy and Apoptosis in Human Melanoma Cells
    Investigators determined if inhibition of protein synthesis caused by silvestrol triggers autophagy and apoptosis in cultured human cancer cells derived from solid tumors. [BMC Cancer] Full Article

    A “Pedi” Cures All: Toenail Trimming and the Treatment of Ulcerative Dermatitis in Mice
    Scientists hypothesized that interfering with scratching behavior by trimming the toenails of mice with ulcerative dermatitis (UD), would resolve UD lesions. They evaluated the efficacy of toenail trims with a single application of Vetericyn at the time of treatment versus the previous standard of care, topical Tresaderm applied daily. They found that toenail trims were significantly more effective at resolving lesions. [PLoS One]
