Scientists investigated the changes in hemogenic potential in endothelial progenitors at the early stages of embryonic development. MicroRNA-126 Contributes to Niaspan Treatment Induced Vascular Restoration after Diabetic Retinopathy

This study investigated the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of Niaspan treatment of diabetic retinopathy in diabetes (DM) rats. DM rats exhibited significantly decreased microRNA-126 and tight junction Claudin-5/Occludin/ZO-1 genes expression, and increased blood retinal-barrier breakdown, retinal apoptosis and VEGF/VEGFR, as well as VCAM-1/CD45 expressions in the retina compared to normal control group. Endothelial FoxO Proteins Impair Insulin Sensitivity and Restrain Muscle Angiogenesis in Response to a High-Fat Diet

The authors hypothesized that a high-fat (HF) diet generates a dysfunctional vascular niche through an increased expression of endothelial Forkhead box O (FoxO). FoxO1 protein increased in the skeletal muscle capillaries from HF compared to normal chow-fed mice. FoxO1 protein was significantly elevated in cultured endothelial cells exposed to the saturated fatty acid palmitate or the proinflammatory cytokine TNF-α. [FASEB J] Abstract

Biosynthesis of Oxidized Lipid Mediators via Lipoprotein Associated Phospholipase A2 Hydrolysis of Extracellular Cardiolipin Induces Endothelial Toxicity

Investigators describe a model system utilizing oxidative lipidomics/mass spectrometry and bioassays on cultured bovine pulmonary artery endothelial cells to assess the impact of oxidized cardiolipin that they showed, in vivo, can be released to the extracellular space and may be hydrolyzed by lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2. Tumor-Associated Macrophages Induce Capillary Morphogenesis of Lymphatic Endothelial Cells Derived from Human Gastric Cancer

Researchers evaluated the interaction between tumor-associated macrophages and lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) derived from lymph nodes of human gastric cancer.
