PUBLICATIONS(Ranked by impact factor of the journal)Scientists report that deleted in liver cancer 1 (DLC1) was a regulator of YAP, a transcriptional coactivator of proliferation-promoting and tumor-promoting genes; when confluent, active/nuclear YAP was significantly more abundant in DLC1-deficient endothelial cells compared with control cells. [Oncogene] Abstract miR-494 was poorly expressed and LRG1 was highly expressed in myocardial infarctionI rats. miR-494 targeted and downregulated LRG1, which resulted in the inactivation of the Wnt signaling pathway and promoted proliferation, migration and invasion ability of fibroblasts and vascular endothelial cells. [Mol Ther Nucleic Acids] Abstract | Full Article Investigators showed that inhibiting annexin A7 (ANXA7) GTPase activity promoted the interaction of ANXA7 and 5’→3′ exoribonuclease (XRN2) in the nucleus, which regulated the read‐through transcription of MROH7-TTC4, and TIA1 was responsible for the process of MROH7-TTC4 that inhibited apoptosis through MROH7 and TTC4. [FEBS J] Abstract In vitro, RhoA was involved in cell proliferation, migration and tube formation, triggered by the angiogenesis inducers VEGF and sphingosine-1 phosphate. [Sci Rep] Full Article ER-retained intrabody against prolyl hydroxylase 2 (ER-INP) showed distinct angiogenic activity both in vitro and in vivo, as ER-INP expression significantly promoted the migration and tube formation of HUVECs and enhanced angiogenesis of chick chorioallantoic membranes. [Sci Rep] Full Article The authors found miR-21 was downregulated in endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) of deep venous thrombosis model rats. Increased miR-21 expression promoted proliferation and angiogenesis of EPCs. [J Transl Med] Full Article Researchers showed that exosomes from osteocalcin (OCN)-overexpressed endothelial progenitor cells had a beneficial regulating effect on endothelial cells, which involved the enhanced OCN-G-protein coupled receptor family C group 6 member A signaling. [Am J Physiol Cell Physiol] Abstract Investigators evaluated advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and soluble form of receptor RAGE (sRAGE) concentrations as well as the AGEs/sRAGE ratio in mild and resistant hypertensive patients in comparison with normotensive individuals. They also evaluated the association between AGEs, sRAGE as well as AGEs/sRAGE ratio and circulating endothelial cells and circulating endothelial progenitor cells. [Int J Mol Sci] Full Article Scientists identified that uric acid (UA) regulated the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome by activating ROS and K+ efflux. In vivo results showed that UA caused the vascular endothelial injury by activating NLRP3/IL-1β pathway. REVIEWSAtherosclerosis and Flow: Roles of Epigenetic Modulation in Vascular Endothelium Epigenetic factors play vital roles in modulating hemodynamic-directed endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction and vascular disorders, i.e., atherosclerosis. Understanding the detailed mechanisms through which epigenetic factors regulate hemodynamics-directed EC dysfunction and vascular disorders can help us to elucidate the pathogenic mechanisms of atherosclerosis and develop potential therapeutic strategies for atherosclerosis treatment. POLICY NEWSHundreds of Extreme Self-Citing Scientists Revealed in New Database A data set, which lists around 100,000 researchers, shows that at least 250 scientists have amassed more than 50% of their citations from themselves or their co-authors, while the median self-citation rate is 12.7%. The study could help to flag potential extreme self-promoters, and possibly ‘citation farms’, in which clusters of scientists massively cite each other, say the researchers. [Nature News] Editorial In Departure for NIH, Cancer Moonshot Requires Grantees to Make Papers Immediately Free In the United States, federal agencies have stuck to a decade-old policy that allows grantees to publish in journals that keep papers behind a paywall for up to one year. Now, the divide is starting to blur, with one prominent US research program starting to require immediate open access to the peer-reviewed publications it funds [ScienceInsider] Editorial
