    TOP STORY

Tumoral Activation of TLR3–SLIT2 Axis in Endothelium Drives Metastasis

Scientists used mouse models of breast and lung cancer to investigate whether endothelial cells also have active ‘instructive’ roles in the dissemination of cancer.

    HIV
Antivirals Affect Endothelial Activation and Endothelial-Platelet Crosstalk

HUVECs or human coronary artery endothelial cells were pre-treated with the antiretrovirals abacavir sulphate, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate or tenofovir alafenamide.

    Abstract

Sulfated Glycans Engage the Ang–Tie Pathway to Regulate Vascular Development

Researchers demonstrated that heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycans (HS GAGs) regulate angiopoietin (Ang)–Tie signaling through direct interactions with both Ang ligands and Tie1 receptors. HS GAGs formed ternary complexes with Ang1 or Ang4 and Tie2 receptors, resulting in potentiation of endothelial survival signaling.

Restriction of Endothelial Cell Calcium Signaling Is Required during Leukocyte Transmigration

Endothelial calmodulin, a key calcium signaling protein, interacts with the IQ domain of IQGAP1, which is localized to endothelial junctions and is required for leukocyte transendothelial migration.

Transcriptome Analysis Reveals Dysregulation of Angiogenic Endothelial Cells and Neuroprotective Glia in Alzheimer’s Disease

Investigators showed that a subpopulation of angiogenic endothelial cells was induced in the brain in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. These angiogenic endothelial cells exhibited increased expression of angiogenic growth factors and their receptors and antigen-presentation machinery.

    Heterogeneity
in VEGF Receptor-2 Mobility and Organization on the Endothelial Cell Surface Leads to Diverse Models of Activation by VEGF

Researchers found that surface VEGFR-2 could be mobile or exhibit restricted mobility and be monomeric or non-monomeric, with a complex interplay between the two.

Extrusion of Individually Encapsulated Endothelial and Smooth Muscle Cells Mimicking Blood Vessel Structures and Vascular Native Cell Alignment

Prior to extrusion, the innermost cell encapsulating hydrogel was loaded with HUVECs, whereas the outer hydrogel was loaded with human aortic smooth muscle cells.

    Circ_2858
Helps Blood-Brain Barrier Disruption by Increasing VEGFA via Sponging miR-93-5p during Escherichia coli Meningitis

Scientists identified a novel circRNA, circ_2858, that was significantly upregulated in human brain microvascular endothelial cells upon meningitic E. coli infection.

    Porphyromonas gingivalis
Disrupts Vascular Endothelial Homeostasis in a TLR-NF-κB Axis Dependent Manner

To illuminate the effects and elucidate the mechanisms of P. gingivalis on endothelial structural integrity, investigators developed P. gingivalis infection models in vivo and in vitro.

Mechanical Forces Regulate Asymmetric Vascular Cell Alignment

Tuning the traction and intercellular forces using different topographic geometries of symmetric and asymmetric ring-shape patterns regulated the vascular asymmetric morphogenesis in vitro.
    [Biophysical Journal]

    Abstract

    Electronic Blood Vessel

Investigators report an electronic blood vessel, with excellent biocompatibility, flexibility, mechanical strength, and degradability, that could enable in situ electrical stimulation and electroporation and exhibit excellent patency in a rabbit model.
