    TOP STORY

Microvessels Support Engraftment and Functionality of Human Islets and hESC-Derived Pancreatic Progenitors in Diabetes Models

Scientists enhanced subcutaneous engraftment by employing a unique vascularization strategy based on ready-made microvessels isolated from the adipose tissue.

Perinatal Angiogenesis from Pre-Existing Coronary Vessels via DLL4–NOTCH1 Signaling

Scientists showed that, in late fetal development, the embryonic coronary plexus at the inner myocardium of the ventricles expressed the angiogenic signaling factors VEGFR3 and DLL4 and generated new coronary vessels in neonates.

    Abstract

Heat Shock Protein 27 Activity Is Linked to Endothelial Barrier Recovery after Proinflammatory GPCR-Induced Disruption

Through mass spectrometry phosphoproteomics, researchers identified heat shock protein 2, which exists as a large oligomer that binds to actin, as a promising candidate for the p38-mediated regulation of barrier integrity.

    Abstract

Antihypertensive Drug Treatment and Susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Human PSC-Derived Cardiomyocytes and Primary Endothelial Cells

Exposure of human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes and primary endothelial cells to SARS-CoV-2 identified significant differences in protein coding genes involved in immunity, viral response, and cardiomyocyte/endothelial structure.

Engineered 3D Vessel-on-Chip Using hiPSC-Derived Endothelial- and Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells

The authors developed a robust multi-cell type 3D vessel-on-chip model based entirely on human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). Within a fibrin hydrogel microenvironment, the hiPSC-derived vascular cells self-organized to form stable microvascular networks reproducibly, in which the vessels were lumenized and functional, responding as expected to vasoactive stimulation.

Potential Role of Epicardial Adipose Tissue in Coronary Artery Endothelial Cell Dysfunction in Type 2 Diabetes

To simulate type 2 diabetes-associated metabolic and inflammatory status in an ex vivo tissue culture model, human epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) samples were treated with a cocktail composed of high glucose, high palmitate, and lipopolysaccharide and were compared with control EAT.

    Abstract

Effect of Endothelial Progenitor Cell-Derived Extracellular Vesicles on Endothelial Cell Ferroptosis and Atherosclerotic Vascular Endothelial Injury

Researchers focused on the role of endothelial progenitor cell-secreted extracellular vesicles in atherosclerosis.

Tumor-Derived Exosomal miR-3157-3p Promotes Angiogenesis, Vascular Permeability and Metastasis by Targeting TIMP/KLF2 in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Scientists found that miR-3157-3p could be transferred from non-small cell lung carcinoma cells to vascular endothelial cells through exosomes.

Construction of Transplantable Artificial Vascular Tissue Based on Adipose Tissue-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells by a Cell Coating and Cryopreservation Technique

The authors constructed an artificial vascular tissue constructed by human adipose tissue-derived stromal cells and HUVECs by a modified technique with cryopreservation.

Glutamine Metabolism Regulates Endothelial to Hematopoietic Transition and Hematopoietic Lineage Specification

Researchers showed that glutamine was a crucial regulator of endothelial to hematopoietic transition and a rate limiting metabolite in the hematopoietic differentiation of hemogenic endothelial cells.
