    TOP STORY

Control of Embryonic Stem Cell Lineage Commitment by Core Promoter Factor, TAF3
Here, scientists report that TAF3, a TBP-associated core promoter factor, is highly enriched in embryonic stem cells. [Cell] Abstract

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by Impact Factor of the Journal)

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells from Highly Endangered Species
Researchers report generation of induced pluripotent stem cells from two endangered species: a primate, the drill, Mandrillus leucophaeus and the nearly extinct northern white rhinoceros, Ceratotherium simum cottoni. [Nat Methods] Abstract | Press Release

Site-Specific Gene Correction of a Point Mutation in Human iPS Cells Derived from an Adult Patient with Sickle Cell Disease
Here scientists report a homologous recombination based approach to precisely correct the Sickle Cell Disease mutation in patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) with two mutated beta-globin alleles. [Blood] Abstract

Specific Lectin Biomarkers for Isolation of Human Pluripotent Stem Cells Identified through Array-Based Glycomic Analysis
Using lectin arrays, investigators analyzed glycoproteins extracted from 26 human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) samples and 22 differentiated cell samples, and identified a small group of lectins with distinctive binding signatures that were sufficient to distinguish hPSCs from a variety of non-pluripotent cell types. [Cell Res] Abstract

Temporally Controlled Modulation of FGF/ERK Signaling Directs Midbrain Dopaminergic Neural Progenitor Fate in Mouse and Human Pluripotent Stem Cells
In this study, scientists systematically investigated the temporal actions of FGF signaling in midbrain-specific dopamine neuron fate specification of mouse and human pluripotent stem cells and mouse induced pluripotent stem cells. [Development] Abstract

Immunobiology of Naïve and Genetically Modified HLA-Class-I-Knockdown Human Embryonic Stem Cells
Here, researchers sought to describe the mechanisms of rejection for naïve human embryonic stem cells and upon HLA class I knockdown. [J Cell Sci] Abstract

Human and Mouse Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Are Differentially Reprogrammed in Response to Kinase Inhibitors
Here investigators demonstrate that flat-shaped human induced pluripotent stem cell colonies can be reprogrammed into bowl-shaped multi-potent stem cells using N2B27 serum-free 2i media (MEK and GSK3 inhibitors; PD0325901 and CHIR99021) plus leukemia inhibitory factor medium. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Comparative Proteomic Analysis of Human Somatic Cells, Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells, and Embryonic Stem Cells
In this study, scientists performed comparative proteomic analyses of human somatic cells [human newborn foreskin fibroblasts (hFFs)], human induced pluripotent stem cells derived from hFFs, and H9 human embryonic stem cells. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Human Embryonic Stem Cells and Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Cells Shared the Common Endogenous Human MicroRNA-26b
In the present study, microarrays were used to analyze the global expression of microRNAs in a human embryonic stem cell line (HUES-17) and four colorectal cancer cell lines (LoVo, SW480, HT29 and Caco-2) with different metastatic potentialities. [J Cell Mol Med] Abstract

Induction of Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells from Monkey iPS Cells
In this report, scientists produced induced pluripotent stem cell lines from monkeys to investigate their ability to differentiate into retinal cells. [Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci] Abstract
