Long-Term Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Self-Renewal on Synthetic Polymer Surfaces  ShareThis

Researchers identified several polymers that can support self-renewal of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs). While most of these polymers provide support for only a short period of time, the researchers identified a synthetic polymer poly(methyl vinyl ether-alt-maleic anhydride) that supported the long-term attachment, proliferation and self-renewal of HUES1, HUES9, and iPSCs. Fibronectin and Vitronectin Induce AP-1-Mediated Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 Expression Through Integrin Alpha(5)Beta(1)/Alpha(v)Beta(3)-Dependent Akt, ERK and JNK Signaling Pathways in Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells
Data suggest that both fibronectin and vitronectin induce matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression via the AP-1-activating signaling pathways in endothelial cells, and thereby stimulate degradation of surrounding collagen, leading to alterations in extracellular matrix structure and potentially the promotion of angiogenesis. [Cell Signal]

The Density of Extracellular Matrix Proteins Regulates Inflammation and Insulin Signaling in Adipocytes
Researchers found that high density extracellular matrix causes a decrease in insulin signaling and adiponectin secretion, whereas the secretion of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 was increased via the activation of nuclear factor-kappaB. [FEBS Lett]
