    TOP STORY

KRAS Mutant Rectal Cancer Cells Interact with Surrounding Fibroblasts to Deplete the Extracellular Matrix

Scientists found that KRAS‐mutant tumors displayed lower expression of genes related to the tumor stroma and remodeling of the ECM.

    Abstract

As a scientist, how you separate the facts from the claims is just as important as how you separate your cells. See for yourself.

Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-2α Mediates Senescence-Associated Intrinsic Mechanisms of Age-Related Bone Loss

Inhibition of senescence-induced upregulation of hypoxia-inducible factor-2α expression during matrix maturation, but not during the proliferation stage of osteoblast differentiation, reversed the age-related decrease in Runx2 and Ocn expression.

Using Wet Electrospun PCL/Gelatin/CNT Yarns to Fabricate Textile-Based Scaffolds for Vascular Tissue Engineering

Researchers report a novel method to fabricate polymer/carbon nanotube (CNT) composite yarns by electrospinning polycaprolactone/gelatin into a bath of CNT dispersion and extracting electrospun fibers out of the bath. In vitro biological test results showed that within a limited range of CNT concentrations in the bath, the yarns exhibited good biocompatibility and the ability to guide cell elongation and alignment.

An Interplay of Microglia and Matrix Metalloproteinase MMP9 under Hypoxic Stress Regulates the Opticin Expression in Retina

Scientists demonstrated that a reduced opticin levels in ROP vitreous were regulated by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) secreted by activated microglia.

    Abstract

Complement Factor I Upregulates Expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase‐13 and ‐2 and Promotes Invasion of Cutaneous Squamous Carcinoma Cells

The authors studied the functional role of complement factor I (CFI) in the progression of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). CFI was knocked down in cSCC cells and RNA‐seq analysis was performed.

    Abstract

Exosome-Delivered CD44v6/C1QBP Complex Drives Pancreatic Cancer Liver Metastasis by Promoting Fibrotic Liver Microenvironment

Researchers explored the underlying mechanisms of how pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma-derived exosomes modulate the liver microenvironment and promote metastasis.

    Abstract

3D Printed Alginate Bead Generator for High-Throughput Cell Culture

Scientists designed a 3D printed bead generator that uses an airflow to cleave beads from a stream of hydrogel solution. They demonstrated that viability and biological function of chondrocytes were not adversely affected by high frequency using this bead generator.
