    TOP STORY
Engineering of Fibrillar Decorin Matrices for a Tissue-Engineered Trachea
Researchers used electrospinning to generate decorin-containing matrices for tracheal tissue engineering applications. Interactions of the electrospun scaffolds with immune-mediated mechanisms were analyzed in detail. [Biomaterials] Abstract

Apply Now: Mammary Stem Cell Training Course (June 2-3 2012) in Vancouver, Canada.

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by Impact Factor of the Journal)

The Impact of Substrate Stiffness and Mechanical Loading on Fibroblast-Induced Scaffold Remodeling
Investigators aimed to gain insight into how mechanical boundary conditions affect the production of extracellular matrix components, their remodeling and the feedback of the altered mechanical cell environment on these processes. [Tissue Eng Part A] Abstract

Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) and ACE2 Bind Integrins and ACE2 Regulates Integrin Signaling
Scientists’ results suggested that ACE2 plays a role in cell-cell interactions, possibly acting to fine-tune integrin signaling. [PLoS One] Abstract

Anthrax Toxin Receptor 2 Functions in Extracellular Matrix Homeostasis of the Murine Reproductive Tract and Promotes MMP Activity
Histological analysis of the uterus and cervix revealed aberrant deposition of extracellular matrix proteins such as type I collagen, type VI collagen and fibronectin. [PLoS One] Abstract

Disorganized Collagen Scaffold Interferes with Fibroblast Mediated Deposition of Organized Extracellular Matrix In Vitro
Two established corneal stroma tissue engineering culture systems were compared to determine if the presence of disorganized collagen gel influenced matrix production and organizational control exerted by primary human corneal fibroblast cells. [Biotechnol Bioeng] Abstract

Bone Matrix Osteonectin Limits Prostate Cancer Cell Growth and Survival
To determine how bone matrix osteonectin affects the behavior of prostate cancer cells, researchers modeled prostate cancer cell-bone interactions using the human prostate cancer cell line PC-3, and mineralized matrices synthesized by wild type and osteonectin-null osteoblasts in vitro. [Matrix Biol] Abstract

Tumor Suppression by Collagen XV Is Independent of the Restin Domain
Researchers showed that expression of collagen XV enhances the adhesion of cervical carcinoma cells to collagen I in vitro as does the N-terminus and collagenous regions of collagen XV, but not the restin domain. [Matrix Biol] Abstract

Characterization of a S-Layer Protein from Lactobacillus crispatus K313 and the Domains Responsible for Binding to Cell Wall and Adherence to Collagen
Binding to immobilized types I and IV collagen was observed with His-surface (S)-layer protein B1-379 peptides, suggesting that the extracellular matrix protein-binding domain was located in the N terminus. [Appl Microbiol Biotechnol] Abstract

Stirred Flow Bioreactor Modulates Chondrocyte Growth and Extracellular Matrix Biosynthesis in Chitosan Scaffolds
Researchers aimed to show the favorable effect of simple dynamic culture conditions on chondrogenesis of previously expanded human chondrocytes seeded in a macroporous scaffold with week cell-pore walls adhesion. [J Biomed Mater Res A] Abstract

[New Webinar] Discover How to Reduce Variability in Primary Neuron Cultures with NeuroCult SM
