    TOP STORY
Fast-Degrading Elastomer Enables Rapid Remodeling of a Cell-Free Synthetic Graft into a Neoartery
Researchers designed cell-free biodegradable elastomeric grafts that degrade rapidly to yield neoarteries nearly free of foreign materials three months after interposition grafting in rat abdominal aorta. This design focuses on enabling rapid host remodeling. [Nat Med] Abstract | Press Release

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)

Multistep Molecular Mechanism for Bone Morphogenetic Protein Extracellular Transport in the Drosophila Embryo
Researchers propose that regulation of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) shuttling and immobilization through extracellular matrix interactions is widely used, both during development and in tissue homeostasis, to achieve a precise extracellular BMP distribution. [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA] Abstract | Full Article

Hyaluronic Acid-Binding Scaffold for Articular Cartilage Repair
Investigators developed a poly(ethylene glycol) hydrogel with non-covalent hyaluronic acid-binding capabilities and evaluated its ability to support cartilage formation in vitro and in an articular defect model. [Tissue Eng Part A] Abstract

Breast Tumor Initiating Cell Fate Is Regulated by Microenvironmental Cues from an Extracellular Matrix
Researchers studied how the tumor-initiating cell population would respond when subjected to a unique microenvironment composed of different extracellular proteins. [Integr Biol] Abstract

HSP47 Regulates ECM Accumulation in Renal Proximal Tubular Cells Induced by TGF-β1 through ERK1/2 and JNK MAPK Pathway
Scientists suggest that ERK1/2 and JNK signaling events are involved in modulating the expression of heat shock protein 47 (HSP47), the chaperoning effect of which on transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) would ultimately contribute to renal fibrosis by enhancing the extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins synthesis and deposition. [Am J Physiol Renal Physiol] Abstract

    In Vitro
and In Vivo Evaluation of a Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Scaffold Coated with a Native Allogeneic Extracellular Matrix
Scientists evaluated the osteogenic properties of biphasic calcium phosphate scaffolds coated with extracellular matrix derived in vitro from allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells. [J Tissue Eng Regen Med] Abstract

Artificial Extracellular Matrices of Collagen and Sulphated Hyaluronan Enhance the Differentiation of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells in the Presence of Dexamethasone
Researchers investigated the potential of artificial extracellular matrix coatings containing collagen II and two types of glycosaminoglycan with different degrees of sulphation to promote human bone formation in biomedical applications. [J Tissue Eng Regen Med] Abstract

Inhibitory Effect of Ginsenoside Rg1 on Extracellular Matrix Production via Extracellular Signal-Regulated Protein Kinase/Activator Protein 1 Pathway in Nasal Polyp-Derived Fibroblasts
Scientists investigated the effect of Rg1 on transforming growth factor-β1-induced myofibroblast differentiation and extracellular matrix production and to determined the molecular mechanism of Rg1 in nasal polyp-derived fibroblasts. [Exp Biol Med] Abstract

Functionalization of PLLA Nanofiber Scaffolds Using a Possible Cooperative Effect between Collagen Type I and BMP-2: Impact on Colonization and Bone Formation In Vivo
Differentiation is triggered by a series of signaling processes, including integrin and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP), which act in a cooperative manner. Researchers analyzed whether these processes can be remodeled in artificial poly-(l)-lactide acid (PLLA) based nanofiber scaffolds in vivo. [J Mater Sci Mater Med] Abstract
