    TOP STORY
C/EBPγ Deregulation Results in Differentiation Arrest in Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Researchers found that C/EBPγ mediates the myeloid differentiation arrest induced by C/EBPα deficiency and that targeting the C/EBPα-C/EBPγ axis rescues neutrophilic differentiation in a unique subset of acute myeloid leukemias. [J Clin Invest] Full Article

    LABORATORY RESEARCH

miR-155 Targets Histone Deacetylase 4 (HDAC4) and Impairs Transcriptional Activity of B-Cell Lymphoma 6 (BCL6) in the Eµ-miR-155 Transgenic Mouse Model
Researchers provide a mechanistic insight into microRNA (miR)-155-induced leukemogenesis in an ectopic expression of miR-155 mouse model (Eμ-miR-155) through genome-wide transcriptome analysis of naïve B cells and target studies. [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA] Abstract

Prostaglandin E2 Increases Hematopoietic Stem Cell Survival and Accelerates Hematopoietic Recovery after Radiation Injury
Scientists demonstrated that prostaglandin E2 treatment in naïve mice inhibits apoptosis of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells without changing their proliferation rate. [Stem Cells] Abstract

TiF1-Gamma Plays an Essential Role in Murine Hematopoiesis and Regulates Transcriptional Elongation of Erythroid Genes
Previous studies in zebrafish have identified an essential role for the transcriptional intermediary factor TIF1γ in erythropoiesis by regulating the transcription elongation of erythroid genes. To study if TIF1γ plays a similar role in murine erythropoiesis and to assess its function in other blood lineages, researchers generated mouse models with hematopoietic deletion of TIF1γ. [Dev Biol] Abstract

2-(Trimethylammonium)Ethyl (R)-3-Methoxy-3-Oxo-2-Stearamidopropyl Phosphate Promotes Megakaryocytic Differentiation of Myeloid Leukemia Cells and Primary Human CD34+ Hematopoietic Stem Cells
The authors showed that 2-(trimethylammonium)ethyl (R)-3-methoxy-3-oxo-2-stearamidopropyl phosphate, a derivative of an organic chemical identified from a natural product library, promotes highly efficient differentiation of megakaryocytes. [J Tissue Eng Regen Med]
    Abstract

The Effect of Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor Receptor Gene Missense Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms on Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Enrichment
Researchers asked whether the missense single nucleotide polymorphisms in granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) could affect the response to G-CSF in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients and donors. [Cytokine] Abstract

    CLINICAL RESEARCH

High-Dose Vincristine Sulfate Liposome Injection for Advanced, Relapsed, and Refractory Adult Philadelphia Chromosome-Negative Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Sixty-five adults with Philadelphia chromosome-negative acute lymphoblastic leukemia in second or greater relapse or whose disease had progressed following two or more leukemia therapies were treated in this pivotal phase II, multinational trial. [J Clin Oncol] Abstract

Model-Based Decision Rules Reduce the Risk of Molecular Relapse after Cessation of Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Therapy in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Molecular response to imatinib in chronic myeloid leukemia is associated with a biphasic but heterogeneous decline of BCR-ABL transcript levels. The authors analyzed this inter-individual heterogeneity and provide a predictive mathematical model to prognosticate the long-term response and the individual risk of molecular relapse upon treatment cessation. [Blood] Abstract

Treosulfan-Thiotepa-Fludarabine Based Conditioning Regimen for Allogeneic Transplantation in Patients with Thalassemia Major: A Single Center Experience from North India
Researchers analyzed the safety and efficacy of treosulfan/thiotepa/fludarabine based conditioning regimen for allogeneic stem cell transplantation in thalassemia major patients. [Biol Blood Marrow Transplant] Abstract

    REVIEWS
Discovery and Validation of Graft-versus-Host Disease Biomarkers
This review identifies biomarkers for detecting graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), summarizes current information on acute GVHD biomarkers, proposes future prospects for the blinded evaluation of these biomarkers, and discusses the need for biomarkers of chronic GVHD. [Blood] Abstract
