Listeria Delivers Tetanus Toxoid Protein to Pancreatic Tumors and Induces Cancer Cell Death in Mice

The authors presented a microbial-based immunotherapeutic treatment for selective delivery of an immunogenic tetanus toxoid protein into pancreatic ductal adenocarcinom tumor cells by attenuated Listeria monocytogenes.

Development of a Localized Drug Delivery System with a Step-by-Step Cell Internalization Capacity for Cancer Immunotherapy

Researchers developed a localized drug delivery system with a step-by-step cell internalization ability based on a hierarchical-structured fiber device.

Allergic Airway Recall Responses Require IL-9 from Resident Memory CD4+ T Cells

Using a mouse model of chronic allergen exposure followed by an allergen-free rest period, scientists characterized a subpopulation of CD4+ T cells that secreted IL-9 as an obligate effector cytokine.

CRISPR Activation Screen Identifies BCL-2 Proteins and B3GNT2 as Drivers of Cancer Resistance to T Cell-Mediated Cytotoxicity

By investigating the resistance mechanisms, the authors found that MCL1 and JUNB modulated the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. JUNB encoded a transcription factor that downregulates FasL and TRAIL receptors, upregulated the MCL1 relative BCL2A1, and activated the NF-κB pathway.

Tim-3 Mediates T Cell Trogocytosis to Limit Antitumor Immunity

Investigators showed that human PD-1 (T cell immunoglobulin mucin domain-containing protein 3)+Tim-3+ CD8+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes upregulated phosphatidylserine, a receptor for Tim-3, and acquire cell surface myeloid markers from antigen presenting cells through transfer of membrane fragments called trogocytosis.

Macrophage Mitochondrial Bioenergetics and Tissue Invasion Are Boosted by an Atossa-Porthos Axis in Drosophila

Researchers studied a previously uncharacterized nuclear protein, Atossa, which supported macrophage invasion into the germband of Drosophila by controlling cellular metabolism.

Triglyceride Breakdown from Lipid Droplets Regulates the Inflammatory Response in Macrophages

The authors identified the importance of the hypoxia-inducible lipid droplet–associated protein and the intracellular adipose triglyceride lipase in the regulation of lipid accumulation and breakdown in inflammatory macrophages.

Targeting the PSGL-1 Immune Checkpoint Promotes Immunity to PD-1 Resistant Melanoma

Using an aggressive melanoma tumor model, scientists targeted P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) in tumor-bearing mice and found increased effector CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses and decreased regulatory T cells in tumors.

RORγt Phosphorylation Protects against T Cell-Mediated Inflammation

Investigators reported that serine 182 phosphorylation was a major post-translational modification was not involved in thymic T cell development and effector T cell differentiation.

Immune Responses in the Parkinsons’s Disease Brain

Current evidence points towards infiltrating monocytes as also playing a role in neuron death. Further characterization of the successive molecular changes in both the resident and peripheral immune cells invading the Parkinson’s disease brain will provide targets for disease modification.

Targeting Toll-Like Receptors on T Cells as a Therapeutic Strategy against Tumors

The authors summarize the advances in our understanding of the ability of different types of toll-like receptors and their downstream signaling pathways to activate anti-tumor immunity in T cells.
