    TOP STORY
Traitorous Immune Cells Promote Sudden Ovarian Cancer Progression
New findings demonstrate that ovarian tumors don’t necessarily break “free” of the immune system, rather dendritic cells of the immune system seem to actively support the tumor’s escape. The researchers show that it might be possible to restore the immune system by targeting a patient’s own dendritic cells. [Press release from The Wistar Institute discussing online prepublication in the Journal of Experimental Medicine]

The Earliest Thymic T Cell Progenitors Sustain B Cell and Myeloid Lineage Potential
Here researchers provide functional and molecular evidence at the single-cell level that the earliest progenitors in the neonatal thymus had combined granulocyte-monocyte, T lymphocyte and B lymphocyte lineage potential but not megakaryocyte-erythroid lineage potential. [Nat Immunol] Abstract

Suppression of Cytokine Signaling by SOCS3: Characterization of the Mode of Inhibition and the Basis of Its Specificity
SOCS3 (suppressor of cytokine signaling-3) is a major regulator of janus kinase (JAK) signaling and here researchers investigate the molecular basis of its mechanism of action. [Immunity] Abstract | Press Release

Intravital Imaging of Thymopoiesis Reveals Dynamic Lympho-Epithelial Interactions
Here, researchers describe transgenic zebrafish lines enabling the in vivo observation of thymopoiesis. [Immunity] Abstract | Press Release

An NLRP7-Containing Inflammasome Mediates Recognition of Microbial Lipopeptides in Human Macrophages
Here researchers describe identification and characterization of an NLRP7 inflammasome in human macrophages, which is induced in response to microbial acylated lipopeptides. [Immunity] Abstract

Tolerance to Apoptotic Cells Is Regulated by Indoleamine 2,3-Dioxygenase
Researchers demonstrate that pharmacologic inhibition of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase skewed the immune response to apoptotic cells, resulting in increased proinflammatory cytokine production and increased effector T-cell responses toward apoptotic cell-associated antigens. [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA]
    Abstract | Press Release

CC Chemokine Receptor 4 Is Required for Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis by Regulating GM-CSF and IL-23 Production in Dendritic Cells
This study demonstrates that expression of CC chemokine receptor 4 by dendritic cells is required for experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis induction. [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA] Abstract

Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells Sequester High Prion Titres at Early Stages of Prion Infection
Whilst prions were detectable in B and T lymphocytes and in antigen-presenting cells like dendritic cells and macrophages, highest infectious titers were determined in two cell types that have previously not been associated with prion pathogenesis, plasmacytoid dendritic and natural killer cells. [PLoS Pathog] Abstract

Efficient Capture of Infected Neutrophils by Dendritic Cells in the Skin Inhibits the Early Anti-Leishmania Response
Researchers’ findings suggest that following their rapid uptake by neutrophils in the skin, Leishmania major exploits the immunosuppressive effects associated with the apoptotic cell clearance function of dendritic cells to inhibit the development of acquired resistance until the acute neutrophilic response is resolved. [PLoS Pathog] Abstract

Dissection of a Circulating and Intrahepatic CD4+Foxp3+ T-Cell Subpopulation in Chronic Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Infection: A Highly Informative Strategy for Distinguishing Chronic HBV Infection States
Investigators found that circulating and intrahepatic CD4+CD45RAFoxp3hi-activated regulatory T cells were selectively increased in patients with chronic active hepatitis B and acute-on-chronic liver failure but not in asymptomatic carriers. [J Infect Dis] Abstract

γδ T Cells Augment Rejection of Skin Grafts by Enhancing Cross-Priming of CD8 T Cells to Skin-Derived Antigen
In this study, researchers explored the role of γδ T cells in cutaneous immunity using a skin transplantation model. [J Invest Dermatol] Abstract
