TOP STORYγδ T Cells Support Pancreatic Oncogenesis by Restraining αβ T Cell Activation Scientists identified a uniquely activated γδT cell population, which constituted ~40% of tumor-infiltrating T cells in human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Recruitment and activation of γδT cells was contingent on diverse chemokine signals. [Cell] Abstract | Graphical Abstract | |

PUBLICATIONS(Ranked by impact factor of the journal)Researchers used CD25-targeted near-infrared photoimmunotherapy to selectively deplete regulatory T cells, thus activating CD8 T and natural killer cells and restoring local antitumor immunity. [Sci Transl Med] Abstract The authors determined if the pathways leading to enhancement of lung allergic responses by transferred naturally occurring and inducible T regulatory cells differed. [J Allergy Clin Immunol] Abstract Scientists report that pharmacological inhibition as well as genetic ablation of the protein kinase CK2 (CK2) ameliorates experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis severity and relapse incidence. Furthermore, CK2 inhibition or genetic ablation prevents T helper 17 (TH17) cell development and promotes the generation of regulatory T (Treg) cells. [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA] Abstract Macrophage-Mediated Psoriasis Can Be Suppressed by Regulatory T Lymphocytes Researchers recently described an inducible human TNF transgenic mouse line that develops a psoriasis-like arthritis after doxycycline stimulation and analyzed the pathogenesis of arthritis in detail. They showed that the skin phenotype of these mice is characterized by hyperproliferation and aberrant activation of keratinocytes, induction of proinflammatory cytokines, and infiltration with Th1 and Treg lymphocytes, particularly with macrophage infiltration into lesional skin, thus pointing to a psoriasis-like phenotype. [J Pathol] Abstract The authors examined the effects of baicalein (5,6,7-trihydroxyflavone), a flavonoid from Scutellaria baicalensis used in oriental herbal medicine, on regulatory T cell induction and intestinal barrier function through the regulation of tight junctions in a mouse model of food allergy. [Sci Rep] Full Article Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Modulate T-Cell Immune Response via Transcriptomic Regulation. By using a microarray-based global gene expression profiling system, researchers aimed to decipher the underlying molecular pathways that may mediate the immunosuppressive activity of umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells on activated T cells. [Cytotherapy] Abstract The authors found that AvCystatin induced an influx of CD4+ FoxP3+ interleukin-10-producing T cells in the airway and lungs, correlating with immunoprotection, and the corresponding cells could also be induced by adoptive transfer of AvCystatin-primed F4/80+ macrophages. [PLoS One] Full Article Researchers report that ST2 expression identifies highly activated regulatory T cells (Tregs) in mice even under homeostatic conditions. ST2+ Tregs preferentially accumulate at non-lymphoid sites, likely mediated by their high expression of several chemokine receptors facilitating tissue homing. REVIEWSThe authors focus on the advances related to the impact of adenosine production over the immune modulatory activity of regulatory T-cells and mesenchymal stromal cells, and how this nucleotide controls the biological functions of these cells.
