    High-Fat Diet Linked to Intestinal Stem Cell Changes, Increased Risk for Cancer
    Scientists revealed how a high-fat diet makes the cells of the intestinal lining more likely to become cancerous. The study of mice suggested that a high-fat diet drives a population boom of intestinal stem cells and also generates a pool of other cells that behave like stem cells — that is, they can reproduce themselves indefinitely and differentiate into other cell types.     Prolyl Hydroxylase 3 Attenuates MCL-1-Mediated ATP Production to Suppress the Metastatic Potential of Colorectal Cancer Cells
    The authors assessed the significance of prolyl hydroxylase (PHD) enzymes during the metastatic spread of colorectal cancer. PHD expression analysis in 124 colorectal cancer patients revealed that reduced tumoral expression of PHD3 correlated with increased frequency of distant metastases and poor outcome.     MACC1 Mediates Acetylcholine-Induced Invasion and Migration by Human Gastric Cancer Cells
    Researchers demonstrated that acetylcholine acts via M3 muscarinic receptor to promote gastric cancer cell invasion and migration as well as expression of several markers of epithelial-mesenchymal transition. [Oncotarget] Full Article

    Thymic Stromal Lymphopoietin (TSLP) Inhibits Human Colon Tumor Growth by Promoting Apoptosis of Tumor Cells
    Investigators found significantly decreased TSLP levels in tumor tissues compared with tumor-surrounding tissues of patients with colon cancer and TSLP levels negatively correlated with the clinical staging score of colon cancer. [Oncotarget] Full Article

    PS341 Inhibits Hepatocellular and Colorectal Cancer Cells through the FOXO3/CTNNB1 Signaling Pathway
    Scientists demonstrated that PS341 negatively regulated hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer both in vitro and in vivo, including the inhibition of cell proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, the expression of stemness-related genes, cell migration and invasiveness.     Targeted CFTR Gene Disruption with Zinc-Finger Nucleases in Human Intestinal Epithelial Cells Induces Oxidative Stress and Inflammation

    Investigators developed a 2H5-F3 monoclonal antibody through its binding to bovine M cells, and identified the antibody reactive molecule as cyclophilin A. [Cell Tissue Res] Abstract

    A Novel Culture System for Adult Porcine Intestinal Crypts
    Jejunal crypts were isolated from murine, human, and juvenile and adult porcine small intestine, suspended in Matrigel, and co-cultured with syngeneic intestinal subepithelial myofibroblasts or cultured without feeder cells in various culture media. [Cell Tissue Res] Abstract
