    Interleukin-33
Promotes Serotonin Release from Enterochromaffin Cells for Intestinal Homeostasis

The authors demonstrated that interleukin-33 (IL-33) induced instantaneous peristaltic movement and facilitated Trichuris muris expulsion. They found that IL-33 could be sensed by enterochromaffin cells, inducing release of serotonin.

Protein RALY Reprograms Mitochondrial Metabolism via Mediating miRNA Processing in Colorectal Cancer

Scientists analyzed altered gene signatures during colorectal tumor progression, and used a complex of molecular and metabolic assays to study the regulation of metabolism in colorectal cancer cell lines, human patient-derived xenograft mouse models and tumor organoid models.

Metabolic Reprogramming in Aging Intestinal Stem Cells Contributes to Tissue Hyperplasia

The authors identified mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake as a central coordinator of stem cell metabolism. Live imaging of genetically encoded metabolite sensors in intestinal stem cells of Drosophila revealed that mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake transiently adapted electron transport chain flux to match energetic demand upon proliferative activation.

Inhibits Epithelial–Mesenchymal Transition in Colorectal Cancer by Modulation of Snail Expression and β-Catenin Stabilization via Transactivation of PTEN Expression

A series of in vitro and in vivo experiments were conducted to reveal the role of caudal-related homoeobox transcription factor 2 (CDX2) in the invasion and metastasis of colorectal cancer.

Infection Induces Autophagy in Intestinal Epithelial Cells

The authors utilized confluent Caco‐2 cell monolayers as an in vitro model of intestinal epithelial cells to investigate the potential role of autophagy in the pathophysiology of cryptosporidiosis.

Hormone-Induced Expression of Foxl1 in Subepithelial Fibroblasts Correlates with Adult Stem Cell Development during Xenopus Intestinal Remodeling

Foxl1 expression was transiently upregulated only in connective tissue cells during the early period of metamorphic climax and was the highest just beneath the proliferating stem/progenitor cells.

Critical Role of Endothelial Cell Protein C Receptor in the Intestinal Homeostasis in Experimental Colitis

Investigators report that endothelial cell protein C receptor was expressed in the colon epithelial cells, CD11c+, and CD21+/CD35+ myeloid cells surrounding the crypts in the colon mucosa.

APC Regulation of ESRP1 and p120-Catenin Isoforms in Colorectal Cancer Cells

This report describes the effects of full-length, wild-type APC (fl-APC) on cell-cell adhesion genes and p120-catenin isoform switching in SW480 colon cancer cells: fl-APC increased the expression of genes implicated in cell-cell adhesion, whereas the expression of negative regulators of E-cadherin were decreased.

    Curcumin
Represses mTORC1 Signaling in Caco-2 Cells by a Two-Sided Mechanism Involving the Loss of IRS-1 and Activation of AMPK

The authors investigated the molecular effects of physiologically attainable concentration of curcumin in the intestinal lumen on mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 signaling in Caco-2 cells.

    Ameliorative
Effects of Alginate Oligosaccharide on Tumor Necrosis Factor-α-Induced Intestinal Epithelial Cell Injury

The porcine small intestinal epithelial cell line IPEC-J2 was used to assess the ameliorative effects of alginate oligosaccharide on tumour necrosis factor-α-induced intestinal epithelial cell injury.
