    TOP STORY
Osteogenesis of Mesenchymal Stem Cells by Nanoscale Mechanotransduction
Researchers gave a demonstration of using nanoscale sinusoidal mechanotransductive protocols, ‘nanokicking’, to promote osteoblastogenesis in human mesenchymal stem cell cultures. [ACS Nano] Abstract

View Technical Data: Superior Chondrogenic Differentiation Potential of MesenCult-XF Cultured MSCs

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)

Mesenchymal Contribution to Recruitment, Infiltration and Positioning of Leukocytes in Human Melanoma Tissues
To understand factors that regulate leukocyte entry and positioning within human melanoma tissues, the authors performed a multi-parametric quantitative analysis of two separated regions: the intratumoral area and the peritumoral stroma. Using two mesenchymal markers, fibroblast activation protein and CD90, they identified three subsets of mesenchymal cells. [J Invest Dermatol] Abstract

Neuroprotection and Axonal Regeneration after Lumbar Ventral Root Avulsion by Re-Implantation and Mesenchymal Stem Cells Transplant Combined Therapy
Following unilateral avulsion of L4, L5 and L6 spinal roots in adult rats, scientists performed an intraspinal transplant of mesenchymal stem cells and surgical re-implantation of the avulsed roots. [Neurotherapeutics] Abstract

Nuclear Factor-κB Modulates Osteogenesis of Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells through Competition with β-Catenin Signaling in Inflammatory Microenvironments
Investigators identified that nuclear factor-κB signaling might be more important for the regulation of osteogenesis in periodontal ligament tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells from periodontitis compared with β-catenin. [Cell Death Dis] Full Article

miR-155 Regulates Immune Modulatory Properties of Mesenchymal Stem Cells by Targeting TAK1-Binding Protein 2
The effect of inflammatory cytokines on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is extraordinary; logarithmic increases in the expression of iNOS and chemokines are often observed. To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying this robust effect of cytokines, the authors examined the expression of microRNAs in MSCs before and after cytokine treatment. [J Biol Chem] Abstract

Mesenchymal Stem Cell and Chondrocyte Fates in a Multi-Shear Microdevice Are Regulated by Yes-Associated Protein
Scientists used an integrated microfluidic perfusion device to simultaneously generate multiple-parameter fluid shear stresses to investigate the role of fluid flow stimuli in the regulation of Yes-associated protein expression and the fates of mesenchymal stem cells and primary chondrocytes. [Stem Cell Dev] Abstract

The Different Immunoregulatory Functions on Dendritic Cells between Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from Bone Marrow of Patients with Low-Risk or High-Risk Myelodysplastic Syndromes
The authors confirm that myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)-mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) mediate a potent inhibition of dendritic cells (DCs) differentiation. Additionally, MDS-MSC greatly alter DCs functions, including endocytosis, IL-12 secretion, their ability to inhibit T cell proliferation. [PLoS One] Full Article

Hyaluronan Initiates Chondrogenesis Mainly via CD44 in Human Adipose Derived Stem Cells
The authors’ previous report indicated that a microenvironment enriched with hyaluronan (HA) initiated and enhanced chondrogenesis in human adipose derived stem cells (hADSCs). They further hypothesized that HA-induced chondrogenesis in hADSCs is mainly due to the interaction of HA and CD44, a cell surface receptor of HA. [J Appl Physiol] Abstract

Mesenchymal Stromal Cell-Derived Extracellular Matrix Influences Gene Expression of Chondrocytes
The ability of adult human mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular matrix to rescue the phenotype of osteoarthritic chondrocytes and to further stimulate the differentiation of healthy chondrocytes was evaluated. [Biofabrication] Abstract

p38-MAPK Signaling Pathway Is Not Involved in Osteogenic Differentiation during Early Response of Mesenchymal Stem Cells to Continuous Mechanical Strain
Scientists used a model of continuous mechanical strain on bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) to investigate the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs and the mechanism of mechano-transduction. [Mol Cell Biochem] Abstract

[Watch the Video] Detect Cancer Stem Cells with ALDEFLUOR™.

    REVIEWS

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Secretome: A New Paradigm for Central Nervous System Regeneration?
The authors analyze the current understanding of mesenchymal stem cells secretome as a new paradigm for the treatment of central nervous system neurodegenerative diseases. [Cell Mol Life Sci] Abstract

    INDUSTRY NEWS

Oncomatrix Launches a New Immunohistochemistry Kit to Diagnose and Prognose Tumor Invasiveness
Oncomatrix has developed and clinically validated a new immunohistochemistry-based kit to diagnose and prognose the invasiveness of different tumors, such as pancreas, breast, lung, colon and head & neck: DMTXinvaScan. A large multicenter clinical trial has shown sensitivity and specificity levels higher than 90%. Oncomatrix has identified a number of genes and proteins that are differentially expressed in tumor-associated stroma mesenchymal cells and extracellular matrix. [Business Wire] Press Release
