    Researchers Show Nuclear Stiffness Keeps Stem Cells and Cancer Cells in Place
    Researchers have shown that cell migration through micron-size pores is regulated by lamin-A, a nuclear protein that is very similar to the fibrous ones that make up hair. The study’s experiments were conducted on immortalized human cancer cells as well as human-donor-derived mesenchymal stem cells.     Cytotoxic CD8+ T Cells Stimulate Hematopoietic Progenitors by Promoting Cytokine Release from Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stromal Cells
    Researchers indicated that during an acute viral infection, cytotoxic CD8+ T cells indirectly modulate early multipotent hematopoietic progenitors via mesenchymal stromal cells in order to trigger the temporary activation of emergency myelopoiesis and promote clearance of the infection.     Scaffold-Mediated Lentiviral Transduction for Functional Tissue Engineering of Cartilage
    Scientists showed that poly-L-lysine could immobilize lentivirus to poly(e-caprolactone) films and facilitate human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) transduction. They then demonstrated that scaffold-mediated gene delivery of transforming growth factor ß3, using a 3D woven poly(e-caprolactone) scaffold, induced robust cartilaginous extracellular matrix formation by hMSCs.     Mesenchymal Stem Cells: Immune Evasive, Not Immune Privileged
    Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) have long been reported to be hypoimmunogenic or ‘immune privileged’; this property is thought to enable MSC transplantation across major histocompatibility barriers and the creation of off-the-shelf therapies consisting of MSCs grown in culture. However, recent studies describing generation of antibodies against and immune rejection of allogeneic donor MSCs suggest that MSCs may not actually be immune privileged. [Nat Biotech] Abstract
