    TOP STORY
Stimulation of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs) via TLR3 Reveals a Novel Mechanism of Autocrine Priming
Researchers investigated the inflammatory responses of MSCs isolated from human nasal mucosa upon challenge with different Toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands. [FASEB J] Abstract

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Allogeneic Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cell Transplantation in Patients with UDCA-Resistant Primary Biliary Cirrhosis
Researchers evaluated the safety and efficacy of allogeneic bone marrow mesenchymal stromal/stem cell transplantation for patients with ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA)-resistant primary biliary cirrhosis. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Intermittent PTHrP(1-34) Exposure Augments Chondrogenesis and Reduces Hypertrophy of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells
Scientists investigated whether intermittent supplementation of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), as opposed to constant treatment, can beneficially influence mesenchymal stromal cell chondrogenesis and to explore molecular mechanisms below catabolic and anabolic responses. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Different Forms of Tenascin-C with Tenascin-R Regulate Neural Differentiation in Bone Marrow-Derived Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells
A combination of tenascinC and tenascinR significantly promoted human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells differentiation in neurons or oligodendrocytes, induced neurite formation, and inhibited differentiation into astrocytes. [Tissue Eng Part A] Abstract

SOCS1 Regulates the Immune Modulatory Properties of Mesenchymal Stem Cells by Inhibiting Nitric Oxide Production
Scientists found the suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) was induced in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) treated with inflammatory cytokines. Knockdown of SOCS1 did not bring much difference on the proliferation and differentiation properties of MSCs. [PLoS One] Full Article

Human Mesenchymal Cells from Adipose Tissue Deposit Laminin and Promote Regeneration of Injured Spinal Cord in Rats
Researchers investigated the regenerative properties of human adipose tissue derived stromal cells (hADSCs) in a rat model of spinal cord compression. Cells were delivered directly into the spinal parenchyma immediately after injury. Human ADSCs promoted functional recovery, tissue preservation, and axonal regeneration. [PLoS One] Full Article

Substrate Stiffness and Oxygen Availability as Regulators of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Differentiation within a Mechanically Loaded Bone Chamber
Researchers employed a previously developed computational framework to test the hypothesis that substrate stiffness and oxygen availability regulate stem cell differentiation during tissue regeneration within an implanted bone chamber. [Biomech Model Mechanobiol] Abstract

Tolerogenic Effect of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells on Gliadin-Specific T Lymphocytes in Celiac Disease
Scientists investigated the effects of mesenchymal stromal cells on gliadin-specific T cells, which are known to induce intestinal lesions, in view of a possible use as new therapy. [Cytotherapy] Abstract

Enhancement of Adhesion and Promotion of Osteogenic Differentiation of Human Adipose Stem Cells by Poled Electroactive Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride)
Non-electroactive α-poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and electroactive β-PVDF were used to investigate the substrate polarization and polarity influence on the focal adhesion size and number as well as on human adipose stem cells differentiation. [J Biomed Mater Res A] Abstract

Enhancement of Mouse Germ Cell-Associated Genes Expression by Injection of Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells into the Testis of Chemical-Induced Azoospermic Mice
Researchers investigated whether injection of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells into the interstitial compartment of the testes to promote spermatogenic regeneration efficiently. [Asian J Androl] Full Article

Enhancing Chondrogenic Phenotype for Cartilage Tissue Engineering: Monoculture and Co-Culture of Articular Chondrocytes and Mesenchymal Stem Cells
The authors focus on the use of articular chondrocytes and mesenchymal stem cells in either monoculture or co-culture for the enhancement of chondrogenesis. [Tissue Eng Part B Rev] Abstract
