    TOP STORY
Researchers Use Light to Coax Stem Cells to Repair Teeth
Scientists demonstrated the ability to use low-power light to trigger stem cells inside the body to regenerate tissue. The research lays the foundation for a host of clinical applications in restorative dentistry and regenerative medicine more broadly, such as wound healing, bone regeneration, and more. [Press release from the Wyss Institute discussing online prepublication in Science Translational Medicine] Press Release | Abstract
NEW MesenPureâ„¢ Highly Enriched Mouse MSC Cultures Without the Wait FREE Sample Request

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Tenogenic Differentiation of Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Dictated by Properties of Braided Submicron Fibrous Scaffolds
Researchers investigated the effect of fiber chemistry and braiding angle on braided submicron fibrous scaffolds (BSMFSs) mechanical properties and in turn, tenogenic differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived mesenchymal stem cells seeded on BSMFSs subjected to cyclic tensile stimulation in the absence of tenogenic medium. [Biomaterials] Abstract

Bone-Like Apatite Nucleating Nanofibers Induce Differentiation of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells into Mature Osteoblasts
Nanofibers functionalized with osteoinductive collagen I derived Asp-Gly-Glu-Ala peptide sequence provided an advantage in initial adhesion, spreading, and early commitment to osteogenic differentiation for hMSCs. Scientists demonstrated that this early osteogenic commitment, however, does not necessarily guarantee a priority for maturation into functional osteoblasts. [Biomacromolecules] Abstract

Bobby Sox Homology Regulates Odontoblast Differentiation of Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells/Progenitors
To understand the role of bobby sox homolog (BBX) in odontoblast differentiation, BBX variant 1 and 2 cDNA were cloned and overexpressed in dental pulp stem cells/progenitors. [Cell Commun Signal]

Regulation of Mouse Microglia Activation and Effector Functions by Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Scientists found that mesenchymal stem or stromal cells induce a mixed microglia phenotype defined as Arg-1-high, CD86-high, CD206-high, IL-10-high, PGE2-high, MCP-1/CCL2-high, IL-1β-moderate, NALP-3-low, and TNF-α-low cells. [Stem Cell Dev] Abstract

Driving Cartilage Formation in High-Density Human Adipose-Derived Stem Cell Aggregate and Sheet Constructs without Exogenous Growth Factor Delivery
Investigators explored the influence of growth factor distribution and release kinetics on cartilage formation within 3D human adipose-derived stem cell constructs incorporated with transforming growth factor-β1 loaded gelatin microspheres. [Tissue Eng Part A] Abstract

Skin-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Help Restore Function to Ovaries in a Premature Ovarian Failure Mouse Model
To determine the ability of skin-derived mesenchymal stem cells to reactivate injured ovaries, a mouse model with ovaries damaged by busulfan and cyclophosphamide was developed. [PLoS One] Full Article

Isolation of a Stable Subpopulation of Mobilized Dental Pulp Stem Cells (MDPSCs) with High Proliferation, Migration, and Regeneration Potential Is Independent of Age
Investigators isolated dental pulp stem cells subsets based on their migratory response to granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (MDPSCs) from young and aged donors. The aged MDPSCs were efficiently enriched in stem cells, expressing high levels of trophic factors with high proliferation, migration and anti-apoptotic effects compared to young MDPSCs. [PLoS One] Full Article

Peripheral Vein Infusion of Autologous Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Egyptian Hepatitis C Virus Positive Patients with End Stage Liver Disease
Investigators assessed the utility of autologous mesenchymal stem cell peripheral vein infusion as a possible therapeutic modality for patients with end-stage liver diseases. [Stem Cell Res Ther] Abstract | Full Article

Lipopolysaccharide Differentially Affects the Osteogenic Differentiation of Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells and Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells through Toll-Like Receptor 4 Mediated Nuclear Factor KappaB Pathway
Researchers comparatively investigated the influence of lipopolysaccharide on the osteogenesis potential of human periodontal ligament stem cells and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. [Stem Cell Res Ther] Abstract | Full Article

Therapeutic Effect of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Laser-Induced Retinal Injury in Mice
Researchers investigated the therapeutic potential of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells by systemic transplantation in a laser-induced retinal injury model. [Int J Mol Sci] Abstract | Download Full Article
