    TOP STORY
Bone Stem Cells Shown to Regenerate Bone and Cartilage in Adult Mice
A stem cell capable of regenerating both bone and cartilage has been identified in bone marrow of mice. The cells, called osteochondroreticular stem cells, were discovered by tracking a protein expressed by the cells. Achieve Superior Differentiation of Mouse MSC & MEF into Osteoblasts with the MesenCultâ„¢ Osteogenic Stimulatory Kit (Mouse)

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Effect of Aging on Human Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy in Ischemic Cardiomyopathy Patients
Researchers determined whether the therapeutic effect of culture-expanded mesenchymal stem cells persists, even in older subjects. [J Am Coll Cardiol] Abstract

miR-223 Regulates Adipogenic and Osteogenic Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells through a C/EBPs/miR-223/FGFR2 Regulatory Feedback Loop
MicroRNA-223 (miR-223) was found to be involved in the reciprocal regulation of adipocyte and osteoblast differentiation. miR-223 was induced in primary cultured mouse marrow stromal cell, mesenchymal line C3H10T1/2 and stromal line ST2 after adipogenic treatment. [Stem Cells] Abstract

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Detect and Defend against Gammaherpesvirus Infection via the cGAS-STING Pathway
Scientists showed that murine gammaherpesvirus-68, which is genetically and biologically related to human gammaherpesviruses, efficiently infected mesenchymal stem cells both in vitro and in vivo. [Sci Rep]

A Therapy-Grade Protocol for Differentiation of Pluripotent Stem Cells into Mesenchymal Stem Cells Using Platelet Lysate as Supplement
In this work the authors present a therapy-grade, inexpensive and simple protocol to derive mesenchymal stem cells from pluripotent stem cells based on the use of platelet lysate as medium supplement. [Stem Cell Res Ther] Abstract | Full Article

Comparison of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Source Differentiation towards Human Pediatric Aortic Valve Interstitial Cells within 3D Engineered Matrices
Researchers compared the spontaneous and induced multipotency of adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and bone marrow MSCs to that of pediatric human aortic valve interstitial cells using different induction media within three dimensional bioactive hybrid hydrogels with material modulus comparable to that of aortic heart valve leaflets. [Tissue Eng Part C Methods] Abstract

Notch Inhibits Chondrogenic Differentiation of Mesenchymal Progenitor Cells by Targeting Twist1
Upon Notch activation, murine limb bud mesenchymal progenitor cells in micromass culture displayed an inhibition of chondrogenesis. Twist1 was found to be exclusively expressed in mesenchymal progenitor cells at the onset stage of chondrogenesis during Notch activation. [Mol Cell Endocrinol] Abstract

Effect of Exosomes Derived from Multipluripotent Mesenchymal Stromal Cells on Functional Recovery and Neurovascular Plasticity in Rats after Traumatic Brain Injury
The authors tested a novel hypothesis that systemic administration of cell-free exosomes generated from mesenchymal stromal cells promotes functional recovery and neurovascular remodeling in rats after traumatic brain injury. [J Neurosurg] Abstract

Secretomes from Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Enhance Periodontal Tissue Regeneration
Rat mesenchymal stromal cells (rMSCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells cultured in MSC-conditioned media (CM) were assessed on wound-healing and angiogenesis. The expressions of osteogenetic- and angiogenic-related genes of rMSCs cultured in MSC-CM were quantified by means of real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction analysis. [Cytotherapy] Abstract

Cryopreservation Does Not Alter Main Characteristics of Good Manufacturing Process-Grade Human Multipotent Mesenchymal Stromal Cells including Immunomodulating Potential and Lack of Malignant Transformation
Researchers produced fresh and cryopreserved mesenchymal stromal cells from human donors with a xenogen-free good manufacturing practice protocol. Immunogenicity and immunomodulating capacity were tested in co-culture with putative recipient-specific peripheral blood mononuclear cells. [Cytotherapy] Abstract

Dexamethasone and Rosiglitazone Are Sufficient and Necessary for Producing Functional Adipocytes from Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Scientists demonstrate that the simultaneous activation of dexamethasone’s canonical signaling pathways, through the glucocorticoid receptor and CCAAT-enhancer-binding proteins and rosiglitazone through peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma is sufficient yet necessary for inducing human MSC adipogenic differentiation. [Exp Biol Med] Abstract
