    TOP STORY
Human Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Modulate Experimental Autoimmune Arthritis by Modifying Early Adaptive T Cell Responses
A single dose of human expanded adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (eASCs) were administered to mice with established collagen-induced arthritis. A beneficial effect was observed soon after the infusion of the eASCs as shown by a significant decreased in the severity of arthritis. [Stem Cells] Abstract

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Angiogenic Potential and Secretome of Human Apical Papilla Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Various Stress Microenvironments
The authors investigated the endothelial transdifferentiation of stem cells of the apical papilla of human adult teeth (SCAP), the secretion of pro- and anti-angiogenic factors from SCAP, and the paracrine effects of SCAP when exposed to environmental stress to stimulate tissue damage. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

CDH1 and IL1-Beta Expression Dictates FAK and MAPKK-Dependent Cross-Talk between Cancer Cells and Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Scientists conducted comprehensive investigation of the cross-talk between human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and 12 cancer cell lines derived from breast, prostate, colon, head/neck and skin. Human bone marrow-derived MSC line expressing green fluorescence protein were co-cultured with cancer cell lines. [Stem Cell Res Ther] Abstract | Full Article

ROCK Activity and the Gßγ Complex Mediate Chemotactic Migration of Mouse Bone Marrow-Derived Stromal Cells
Researchers investigated and detailed the effects of MCP-1 activation on bone marrow-derived stromal cells using inhibitors of GPCR αβ, ROCK and PI3K. The effects of MCP-1 stimulation on intracellular signaling cascades were characterized using immunoblotting and immunofluorescence. [Stem Cell Res Ther]

Alginate Micro-Encapsulation of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Enhances Modulation of the Neuro-Inflammatory Response
Organotypic hippocampal slice cultures (OHSC) were administered lipopolysaccharide to induce inflammation and immediately co-cultured with encapsulated or monolayer human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). After 24 hours, culture media was assayed for the pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha produced by OHSC, as well as MSC-produced trophic mediators. [Cytotherapy] Abstract

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Respond to Hypoxia by Increasing Diacylglycerols
The authors investigated changes in the lipid composition of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) after exposure to hypoxia. Using mass spectrometry, they compared the lipid profiles of MSC derived from five different donors, cultured for two days in either normoxia or hypoxia. [J Cell Biochem] Abstract

Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Promote Cell Proliferation and Invasion of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
Scientists investigated the impact of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells derived from the omentum of normal donors on human epithelial ovarian cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. [Exp Cell Res] Abstract

Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-Induced Protein 1 (MCPIP1) Enhances Angiogenic and Cardiomyogenic Potential of Murine Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Researchers investigated the impact of MCPIP1 on viability, apoptosis, proliferation, metabolic activity, proteome, secretome and differentiation capacity of murine bone marrow – derived mesenchymal stem cells. [PLoS One] Full Article

Functional Restoration of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Patient-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells through Inhibition of DNA Methyltransferase
Investigators examined the correlation between excessive DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) expression and functional decline in mesenchymal stromal cells isolated from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients. The DNMT inhibitor RG108 was used for this. [Cell Mol Neurobiol] Abstract

Effect of Qing’e Formula on the In Vitro Differentiation of Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Proximal Femurs of Postmenopausal Osteoporotic Mice
Researchers studied the effects of medicated serum containing Qing’e formula on the in vitro differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells isolated from the proximal femurs of postmenopausal osteoporosis mice. [BMC Complement Altern Med] Full Article

    BMSCs and Hematopoiesis
Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BMSC)-like cells regulate B and T cell lymphopoiesis and also probably myelopoiesis. Furthermore, BMSCs might also exhibit key regulatory properties in non-physiological conditions. [Immunol Lett] Abstract
