Single-Cell RNA-Seq Reveals that Glioblastoma Recapitulates a Normal Neurodevelopmental Hierarchy

Investigators found a conserved neural tri-lineage cancer hierarchy centered around glial progenitor-like cells. They also found that this progenitor population contains the majority of the cancer’s cycling cells, and, using RNA velocity, is often the originator of the other cell types.

A Cytoskeleton Regulator AVIL Drives Tumorigenesis in Glioblastoma

Scientists found that advillin was overexpressed in all the glioblastomas they had tested including glioblastoma stem/initiating cells, but hardly detectable in non-neoplastic astrocytes, neural stem cells or normal brain.

HCN Channel Activity Balances Quiescence and Proliferation in Neural Stem Cells and Is a Selective Target for Neuroprotection During Cancer Treatment

Investigators showed that hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated ion channels were dynamically expressed over the cell cycle in neural stem cells.

    Abstract

Dextran-Coated Iron Oxide Nanoparticle-Induced Nanotoxicity in Neuron Cultures

The authors examined the dose-dependent neurotoxicity of dextran-coated iron oxide nanoparticles on cultured primary neurons harvested from postnatal day 0-1 mouse brains.
    [Scientific Reports]

Endosomal Escape of Polymer‐Coated Silica Nanoparticles in Endothelial Cells

Primary human endothelial cells are exposed to controlled concentrations of polymer‐functionalized silica nanoparticles to induce lysosomal damage and achieve cytosolic delivery.

    Abstract

Investigating Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Neurogenesis in Capitella teleta Sheds Light on the Ancestor of Annelida

The authors characterized neural precursor cells and their daughters at different stages of neurogenesis in the spiralian annelid Capitella teleta.
    [BMC Evolutionary Biology]

Glioma-Derived Exosomes Drive the Differentiation of Neural Stem Cells to Astrocytes

Researchers demonstrated that the RNAs related to cell proliferation and astrocyte differentiation were upregulated in human mesenchymal stem cells when co-cultured with exosomes obtained from the culture medium of human glioma cells.

Combination Therapy with Nanomicellar-Curcumin and Temozolomide for In Vitro Therapy of Glioblastoma Multiforme via Wnt Signaling Pathways

Scientists evaluated the efficacy of a combination of temozolomide plus curcumin or nanomicellar-curcumin on the inhibition of glioblastoma growth in vitro, via effects on autophagy, apoptosis, and the Wnt signaling pathway.
