Enteroviral 3C Protease Activates the Human NLRP1 Inflammasome in Airway Epithelia

Infection of primary human airway epithelial cells by live human human rhinovirus triggered NACHT, LRR, and PYD domains-containing protein 1 (NLRP1)-dependent inflammasome activation and interleukin-18 secretion.

Obesity-Induced Vitamin D Deficiency Contributes to Lung Fibrosis and Airway Hyperresponsiveness

In vivo effect of vitamin D (VitD) supplementation were analyzed using high fat diet induced obese mice and TGF-β1 triple transgenic mice. Effects of VitD supplementation were also evaluated in both BEAS-2B and primary lung cells from the transgenic mice.

    Abstract

Geomagnetic Shielding Enhances Radiation Resistance by Promoting DNA Repair Process in Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells

Immortalized human bronchial epithelial cells were exposed to X-rays under either a geomagnetic field or hypomagnetic field (HMF) culture condition. A significant increase of the cell survival rate in HMF after radiation was observed by colony formation analysis.

Nitidine Chloride Suppresses NEDD4 Expression in Lung Cancer Cells

The authors aimed to determine the biological effect of nitidine chloride (NC) and the underlying molecular insights in lung cancer cells. The antineoplastic function of NC was assessed by MTT assays, Annexin V-FITC/PI apoptosis assay, wound healing analysis, and Transwell chamber migration and invasion assay in lung cancer cells.

G9a Promotes Invasion and Metastasis of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer through Enhancing Focal Adhesion Kinase Activation via NF-κB Signaling Pathway

Researchers investigated the effect and underlying mechanisms of euchromatic histone methyltransferase 2 (G9a), and therapeutic implications of targeting G9a in the invasion and metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer.

In Vitro and In Vivo Inhibitory Effect of Citrus junos Tanaka Peel Extract against Oxidative Stress-Induced Apoptotic Death of Lung Cells

Investigators demonstrated the inhibitory effect of Citrus junos Tanaka peel extract against the oxidative stress-induced apoptosis of lung cells under a highly oxidative environment.

MicroRNA-let-7e in Serum-Derived Exosomes Inhibits the Metastasis of Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer in a SUV39H2/LSD1/CDH1-Dependent Manner

Researchers evaluated the clinical significance of serum-derived exosomal miR-let-7e as a biomarker in the metastasis of non-small-cell lung cancer.

Downregulation of miR-506-3p Facilitates EGFR-TKI Resistance through Induction of Sonic Hedgehog Signaling in Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Cell Lines

Scientists report that miR-506-3p expression was markedly reduced in erlotinib-resistant (ER) cells. They identified Sonic Hedgehog as a novel target of miR-506-3p, aberrantly activated in ER cells.

EZH2 Inhibitors Reverse Resistance to Gefitinib in Primary EGFR Wild-Type Lung Cancer Cells

The authors investigated whether the enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) inhibitors, GSK343 and DZNep when combined with gefitinib can reverse epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) resistance in EGFR wild-type non-small cell lung cancer cells.
