Comparison of human genome-wide association studies of cardiac disorders with results in flies identified a set of orthologous genes associated with cardiac traits both in Drosophila and in humans. siRNA-mediated gene knockdown was performed in human induced pluripotent stem cells derived cardiomyocytes to show that dmPox-meso/hPAX9 and dmStripe/hEGR2 have conserved functions in cardiomyocytes from both flies and humans.
