Scientists describe an organ-on-a-chip microfluidic culture model of the human vaginal mucosa that was lined by hormone-sensitive, primary vaginal epithelium interfaced with underlying stromal fibroblasts, which sustained a low physiological oxygen concentration in the epithelial lumen.
