Metformin Acts in the Gut and Induces Gut-Liver Crosstalk

Researchers showed that in hyperglycemic conditions, metformin increased basolateral intestinal glucose uptake, and its metabolites produced in the gut, through the portal vein reach the liver and reduce hepatic glucose production.
