Scientists applied a combination of intravital and ex vivo three-dimensional confocal microscopy, micro–computed tomography, and histologic analyses to mouse models of bone-metastatic breast cancer and leptomeninges (LM) metastasis,. They demonstrated that breast cancer cells could traffic to the LM from the bone marrow through abluminal emissary vein migration.
