Scientists revealed that stimulation of anaplerotic metabolism restored defective oxidative phosphorylation in tauopathy neurons which, strikingly, led to pronounced microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT)/tau clearance by boosting autophagy functionality through enhancements of mitochondrial biosynthesis and supply of phosphatidylethanolamine for autophagosome biogenesis.
