In the absence of CFTR protein, centroacinar cells adopted a bi-potent progenitor-like state associated with enhanced WNT/β-Catenin, TGFβ and AKT signaling. The authors showed that the level of CFTR protein, not its channel function, regulated PDX1 expression.
