Scientists demonstrated that extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 2 phosphorylates heterogenous nuclear ribonucleoprotein F (HNRNPF) on Ser346 and Tyr356. Hnrnpf knockout reduces ESC proliferation rate and promotes ESC differentiation.
