Investigators showed that endogenous stimuli and VEGF were sufficient to induce robust human pluripotent stem cell-derived hematopoiesis, intensive generation of hematopoietic progenitors, maturation of blood cells and the emergence of definitive precursor cells including those that were phenotypically identical to early human embryonic HSCs.
