The authors showed in multiple specific pathogen-free, gnotobiotic, and germ-free murine models of gastrointestinal (GI) GVHD that the initiation of the intestinal damage by the pathogenic T cells altered ambient oxygen levels in the GI tract and caused dysbiosis.
