    TOP STORY

Mice With Human Body’s Defences  ShareThis
Therapeutic antibodies can be an efficient alternative when common drugs do not work anymore.  However, antibodies obtained from blood of animals such as mice could not be used because the human immune system recognizes them as foreign and rejects them. With the help of human stem cells, researchers generated mice with a human immune system, which were then vaccinated to produce human monoclonal antibodies. CURRENT PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by Impact Factor of the Journal)

Passive Neutralizing Antibody Controls SHIV Viremia and Enhances B Cell Responses in Infant Macaques
The studies support the use of neutralizing antibodies in enhancing B cell responses and viral control in perinatal settings. [Nat Med]

Invariant NKT Cells Modulate the Suppressive Activity of IL-10-Secreting Neutrophils Differentiated with Serum Amyloid A
Neutrophils are the main effector cells during inflammation, but they can also control excessive inflammatory responses by secreting anti-inflammatory cytokines. However, the mechanisms that modulate their plasticity remain unclear. Researchers now show that systemic serum amyloid A 1 controls the plasticity of neutrophil differentiation. [Nat Immunol]

Mammalian Target of Rapamycin Controls Dendritic Cell Development Downstream of Flt3 Ligand Signaling
Researchers report that mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor rapamycin impaired Flt3L-driven dendritic cell (DC) development in vitro, with the plasmacytoid DCs and CD8+-like classical DCs most profoundly affected. [Immunity]

Immunologic Escape After Prolonged Progression-Free Survival With Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Variant III Peptide Vaccination in Patients With Newly Diagnosed Glioblastoma
Epidermal growth factor receptor variant III-targeted vaccination in patients with glioblastoma multiforme warrants investigation in a phase III, randomized trial. [J Clin Oncol]

Stimulation and Inhibition of FVIII-Specific Memory-B Cell Responses by CpG-B (ODN 1826), A Ligand for Toll-Like Receptor 9
Researchers asked how stimulation and inhibition of Factor VIII (FVIII)-specific memory B cells by low and high concentrations of FVIII, respectively, are affected by concurrent activation of the innate immune system. [Blood]

Interferon Gamma Limits the Effectiveness of Melanoma Peptide Vaccines
The results demonstrate that peptide vaccines can eradicate large established tumors in circumstances where the inhibitory activities of interferon gamma are curtailed. [Blood]

Relevance of the Mevalonate Biosynthetic Pathway in the Regulation of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stromal Cell-Mediated Effects on T Cell Proliferation and B Cell Survival
Herein, researchers defined the effects of cholesterol synthesis inhibitors on the interaction between these mesenchymal stromal cells and T or B lymphocytes. [Haematologica]

Inhibition of Immune Synapse by Altered Dendritic Cell Actin Distribution: A New Pathway of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Immune Regulation
The aim of this work was to elucidate the immunogenic effects of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell/dendritic cell (DC) interactions during DC activation (LPS stimulation or Ag loading). [J Immunol]

Cellular Requirements for Diabetes Induction in DO11.10xRIPmOVA Mice
The results help define the events leading to diabetes in DO11.10xRIPmOVA mice and provide new insights into the cellular interactions required for disease development in an antigen-specific model of type I diabetes. [ J Immunol]

Generation of Human Antigen-Specific Monoclonal IgM Antibodies Using Vaccinated “Human Immune System” Mice
In this work, researchers describe a novel approach to generate fully human monoclonal antibodies by combining a humanized mouse model with a new B cell immortalization technique. [PLoS ONE]
