Clinicogenomic Landscape of Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma Identifies KRAS Mutant Dosage as Prognostic of Overall Survival

Investigators characterized the genomic and clinical correlates of outcomes in PDAC. They showed that a genomic subtype of KRAS wild-type tumors was associated with early disease onset, distinct somatic and germline features, and significantly better overall survival.

G6PC2 Controls Glucagon Secretion by Defining the Set Point for Glucose in Pancreatic α Cells

Investigators found that trait-associated variants in the glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic subunit 2 (G6PC2) promoter were located in open chromatin not just in β but also in α cells and documented allele-specific G6PC2 expression of linked variants in human α cells.

SPOCK2 Controls the Proliferation and Function of Immature Pancreatic β-Cells through MMP2

Scientists identified SPARC (osteonectin), Cwcv and Kazal-like domains proteoglycan 2 (SPOCK2), an extracellular matrix protein, as an inhibitor of immature β-cell proliferation. Human β-cells lacking SPOCK2 presented elevated matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2) expression and activity.

Effect and Safety of Sivelestat on Acute Severe Pancreatitis with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome: A Retrospective Study

The authors expored the efficacy and safety of sivelestat (SV) in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) with systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Although SV did not reduce the mortality of patients with SAP, it reduced the length of ventilator use and ICU stay.

Therapeutic Effects of Resveratrol and β-Carotene on L-Arginine-Induced Acute Pancreatitis through Oxidative Stress and Inflammatory Pathways in Rats

Scientists evaluated the effects of resveratrol (RES) and β‐carotene (βC) on L-arginine-induced acute pancreatitis (AP) in rats. RES and βC conferred significant effects against L-arginine-induced AP by reducing oxidative stress, preserving pancreatic islet integrity, and suppressing inflammatory responses.

MICAL2 Promotes Pancreatic Cancer Growth and Metastasis

The authors highlighted the multiple ways in which MICAL2 impacted PDAC biology and provided a foundation for future investigations into the potential of targeting MICAL2 for therapeutic intervention.

Quantitative Live Imaging Reveals Phase Dependency of PDAC Patient-Derived Organoids on ERK and AMPK Activity

Investigators applied a live imaging approach to organoids derived from 10 pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients to comprehensively understand their heterogeneous growth potential and drug responses.

The Growing Range of Complications of Diabetes Mellitus

A common pathophysiological characteristic in type 2 diabetes mellitus is the presence of insulin resistance and chronic low-grade inflammation which can damage the liver, brain, and muscles, and increase the risk of some cancers.
