PUBLICATIONS(Ranked by impact factor of the journal)To prevent pulmonary inflammation in bronchopulmonary dysplasia, scientists investigated the hypothesis that a key regulator was secreted by MSCs to polarize inflammatory macrophages into anti-inflammatory macrophages at inflammation sites. [Int J Mol Sci] Full Article Researchers investigated the therapeutic effect of combined umbilical cord blood‐derived‐MSCs and platelet‐rich plasma treatment on wound healing in a combined radiation and wound injury mouse model. [Exp Dermatol] Abstract Leukapheresis product from thirty patients was cryopreserved in 10% DMSO in cryopreservation bags for their autologous bone marrow transplantation, and 2 ml were cryopreserved in cryovials for post-thaw viability assessment by flow cytometry. The percentage of viable HSCs recovered post-cryopreservation in leukapheresis product was significantly influenced by the concentration of the total nucleated cells cryopreserved per volume. [Cryobiology] Abstract The authors investigated a rabbit model of osteochondral regeneration using three-dimensional printed polycaprolactone-hydroxyapatite scaffolds coated with umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cells and chondrocytes. [Med Sci Monit] Abstract Investigators assessed the association of specific newborn and maternal factors with indicators of increased blood-forming capacity in umbilical cord blood to inform strategic collection strategies that could augment the quality of units in public cord blood banks. POLICY NEWSSplit Decisions: How Brexit Has Taken a Toll on Five Researchers On 23 June 2016, 34 million U.K. citizens took to the polls to vote on a simple, fateful question: Should the United Kingdom remain a part of the European Union, or should it leave? Nearly 52%—a majority of 1.3 million—wanted out, and conservative politicians vowed to carry out the people’s wishes. [ScienceInsider] Editorial These encouraging words were spoken here last week at the European Research and Innovation Days, where policy bigwigs working with the European Commission invited the audience to help shape Europe’s next seven-year research funding program, Horizon Europe, set to begin in 2021. Their message: Anyone can help “cocreate” the program’s outlines.
