The Hippo Pathway Modulates Resistance to BET Proteins Inhibitors in Lung Cancer Cells

To uncover the mechanisms of resistance to inhibitors of BET proteins (BETi), scientists performed a genome-scale CRISPR/Cas9 screening in lung cancer cells. They identified three Hippo pathway genes, LATS2, TAOK1, and NF2, as key determinants for sensitivity to BETi. [Oncogene] Abstract

Transferrin-adorned thymoquinone nanoparticles successfully coupled two distinct miRNA pathways to potentiate the apoptotic death cascade in very lethal non-small cell lung carcinoma cells and also restricted the migration of these cells without imparting any significant toxicity, which occurs in widely used chemotherapeutic combinations. Researchers showed that knockdown of NONMMUT015812 by shRNAs decreased proliferation and migration abilities of primary murine lung adenocarcinoma cells cells. CytoMatrix for a Reliable and Simple Characterization of Lung Cancer Stem Cells from Malignant Pleural Effusions

Scientists describe a novel support, called CytoMatrix, for the characterization of limited amounts of cancer cells isolated from malignant pleural effusions of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer. Knockdown of SP1/Syncytin1 Axis Inhibits the Proliferation and Metastasis through the AKT and ERK1/2 Signaling Pathways in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Suppression of syncytin 1 inhibited the migration and invasion, as well as the expressions of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) makers, N-cadherin, β-catenin, and vimentin, indicating that syncytin 1 knockdown inhibited the metastasis via reversing the EMT process in A549 cells.
