LIMP-2 Enhances Cancer Stem-Like Cell Properties by Promoting Autophagy-Induced GSK3β Degradation in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

The authors identified a candidate gene named LIMP-2 as a novel therapeutic target regulating head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) progression and CSC properties. The high expression of LIMP-2 in HNSCC patients suggested a poor prognosis and potential immunotherapy resistance.

YY2-DRP1 Axis Regulates Mitochondrial Fission and Determines Cancer Stem Cell Asymmetric Division

It was shown that ying yang 2 (YY2) was downregulated in stem-like tumor spheres formed by hepatocarcinoma cells and in liver cancer, in which its expression was negatively correlated with disease progression and poor prognosis.

Targeting Transglutaminase 2 Mediated Exostosin Glycosyltransferase 1 Signaling in Liver Cancer Stem Cells with Acyclic Retinoid

Investigators examined the subcellular location-dependent effects of acyclic retinoid on transglutaminase 2 (TG2) activity at a structural level and characterized the functional role of TG2 and its downstream molecular mechanism in the selective depletion of liver CSCs.

USP8 Positively Regulates Hepatocellular Carcinoma Tumorigenesis and Confers Ferroptosis Resistance through β-Catenin Stabilization

Researchers identified novel modulators in controlling β-catenin ubiquitination and stability. USP8 was overexpressed in hepatocellular carincoma tissues and correlated with β-catenin protein level.

Exosomal miR-6733-5p Mediates Cross-Talk Between Glioblastoma Stem Cells and Macrophages and Promotes Glioblastoma Multiform Progression Synergistically

Glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs)-derived exosomal miR-6733-5p induced macrophage M2 polarization of tumor-associated macrophages by positively targeting IGF2BP3 to activate the AKT signaling pathway, which further facilitated the self-renewal and stemness of GSCs.

Oncostatin-M and OSM-Receptor Feed-Forward Activation of MAPK Induces Separable Stem-Like and Mesenchymal Programs

Scientists found that Oncostatin-M uniquely induced tumor-initiation and gemcitabine resistance independently of its ability to induce a CD44HI/mesenchymal phenotype.

An Adhesion-Based Method for Rapid and Low-Cost Isolation of Circulating Tumor Cells

Researchers developed a new method based on the stronger adhesive power of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) versus leukocytes to sensitively isolate CTCs. Using a BSA-coated microplate and low-speed centrifuge, this method could easily separate cancer cells within 20 minutes at a very low cost.

Melatonin Regulates Cancer Migration and Stemness and Enhances the Anti-Tumor Effect of Cisplatin

Melatonin inhibited gastric cancer cell migration and soft agar colony formation. Magnetic-activated cell sorting was applied to isolate CD133+ cancer stem cells.

Circular RNA circBNC2 Facilitates Glycolysis and Stemness of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Through the miR-217/High Mobility Group AT-Hook 2 (HMGA2) Axis

Upregulation of circBNC2 was related to poor prognosis and tumor node metastasis stage. Knockdown of circBNC2 inhibited the hepatocellular cancer progression. Moreover, knockdown of circBNC2 suppressed the levels of Ras, ERK1/2, PCNA, HK2, and OCT4.

Silicon Nanowire Array Overcomes Chemotherapeutic Resistance by Inducing the Differentiation of Breast Cancer Stem Cells

Investigators reported the SiNWA differentiates MCF-7-derived breast CSCs (BCSCs) into non-CSCs by modulating the morphology of cells. In vitro, the differentiated BCSCs lost the stemness properties and thus became sensitive to chemotherapeutic drugs, eventually leading to the death of BCSCs.
