TOP STORYPLAG1 and USF2 Co-Regulate Expression of Musashi-2 in Human Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cells Overexpression of USF2 and PLAG1 in primitive cord blood cells enhanced musashi-2 MSI2 transcription and yielded cellular phenotypes, including expansion of CD34+ cells in vitro, consistent with that achieved by direct MSI2 overexpression [Stem Cell Reports] Full Article | |

PUBLICATIONS(Ranked by impact factor of the journal)Scientists assessed the prevalence and clinical manifestations of ocular graft-versus-host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. [Ocul Surf] Abstract Investigators describe the fabrication and testing of ceramic hollow fibre membranes (HFs) able to separate red blood cells (RBCs) and mononuclear cells and be incorporated into 3D tissue models to improve nutrient and metabolite exchange. These HFs filtered RBCs from human umbilical cord blood suspensions of 20% RBCs to produce 90% RBC filtrate suspensions. [Stem Cells Int] Abstract The distribution of the mRNA belonging to the cellular iron network was similar in human leukemic cell lines and in normal cord blood progenitors, with differences among the cellular models only associated with their different propensities to synthesize hemoglobin. [Metallomics] Abstract The authors investigated the differentially expressed long non-coding RNAs during the differentiation of human umbilical cord derived MSCs into cardiomyocyte-like cells induced by 5-aza. [Cytotechnology] Abstract Researchers compared four enzymatic protocols for MSCs isolation from amniotic and chorionic membranes, umbilical cord and placental decidua in order to define a robust, practical and low-cost protocol for each tissue. REVIEWSThe Changing Face of Hematopoiesis: A Spectrum of Options Is Available to Stem Cells Recent findings of lineage biases or affiliations within hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells that are either pluripotent or uni‐potent show that a continuum of fate options is open to hematopoietic stem cells. These results support the view that in order to close down developmental options, hematopoietic stem cells can make an immediate lineage choice rather than become gradually committed as they progress step‐wise through a series of intermediate progenitors. INDUSTRY NEWSCancer Researchers Receive More Than $2 Million to Eradicate Common Form of Leukemia Christoph Rader, PhD, associate professor at the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute, has been awarded a $2.875 million, five-year grant from the National Cancer Institute to develop unique antibody-drug conjugates engineered to eradicate one of the most common forms of leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia. [The Scripps Research Institute] Press Release Kadmon Holdings, Inc. announced that it has received final minutes from a Type C meeting with the FDA regarding the development pathway for KD025, the company’s Rho-associated coiled-coil kinase 2 inhibitor, for the treatment of chronic graft-versus-host disease.
