    TOP STORY
Oleic Acid Enhances the Motility of Umbilical Cord Blood Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells through EphB2-Dependent F-Actin Formation
Scientists investigated the effect of oleic acid-pretreated umbilical cord blood derived mesenchymal stem cells (UBC-MSCs) in skin wound-healing and underlying mechanism of ephrin (Eph) receptor expression. Oleic acid promoted the motility of UCB-MSCs via EphB2 expression. [Biochim Biophys Acta] Abstract

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Arachidonic Acid Promotes Skin Wound Healing Through Induction of Human MSC Migration by MT3-MMP-Mediated Fibronectin Degradation
Researchers investigated the skin wound-healing effect of arachidonic acid-stimulated human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in vivo and its molecular mechanism in vitro. [Cell Death Dis] Abstract

Recipient Expression of Ligands for Donor Inhibitory KIRs Enhances NK-Cell Function, to Control Leukemic Relapse after Haploidentical Transplantation
Researchers compared the functionality of reconstituting natural killer (NK) cells, based on CD107α expression and interferon-γsecretion, in a cohort of 29 patients that expressed or lacked class-I HLAs for donor inhibitory KIRs following T-cell-replete haploidentical stem cell transplantation. [Eur J Immunol] Abstract

Age-Related Increase of EED Expression in Early Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells Is Associated with Global Increase of the Histone Modification H3K27me3
In vitro differentiation of EED-transfected neonatal hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells revealed delayed differentiation towards the lymphoid lineage and aberrant expression of the myelopoietic marker CD14, suggesting that EED affects the lymphoid versus myeloid decision processes within the lymphomyeloid lineage. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Improved Neurological Outcome by Intramuscular Injection of Human Amniotic Fluid Derived Stem Cells in a Muscle Denervation Model
Researchers assessed the outcome of neurological function by intramuscular injection of human amniotic derived stem cells in a muscle denervation and nerve anastomosis model. [PLoS One] Full Article

Outcomes of Cord Blood Transplantation Using Reduced Intensity Conditioning for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia: A Study on Behalf of Eurocord and Cord Blood Committee of Cellular Therapy and Immunobiology Working Party (CTIWP), Chronic Malignancies Working Party (CMWP) of the EBMT and the Societé Française de Greffe de Moelle et Therapie Cellulaire (SFGM-TC)
Researchers analyzed outcomes of 68 patients with poor risk chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma who underwent reduced intensity umbilical cord blood transplantation from 2004-2012. [Biol Blood Marrow Transplant] Abstract

Rapid and Efficient Generation of Transgene-Free iPSC from a Small Volume of Cryopreserved Blood
The authors demonstrated that peripheral blood can be utilized for medium-throughput induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) production without the need to maintain cell culture prior to reprogramming induction. Cell reprogramming can also be accomplished with as little as 3000 previously cryopreserved cord blood cells under feeder-free and chemically defined xeno-free conditions. [Stem Cell Rev] Full Article

Efficacy and Safety of Cord Blood-Derived Cytokine-Induced Killer Cells in Treatment of Patients with Malignancies
After the infusion of cord blood-cytokine-induced killer cells, the subsets of CD3+CD4+ T lymphocytes and CD3CD56+ T cells in the peripheral blood were significantly increased compared with those before the therapy. [Cytotherapy] Abstract

Non-Steady-State Hematopoiesis Regulated by the C/EBPβ Transcription Factor
The BCR-ABL fusion protein activates emergency-specific pathway of granulopoiesis by up-regulating C/EBPβ. This in turn causes chronic phase chronic myeloid leukemia, which is characterized by myeloid expansion. C/EBPβ also plays a role in other hematological malignancies of both myeloid- and lymphoid lineage-origin. [Cancer Sci] Abstract
