    TOP STORY
Erythrocyte Membrane-Enveloped Polymeric Nanoparticles as Nano-Vaccine for Induction of Antitumor Immunity against Melanoma
Rabbit adipose stem cells (ASC) were isolated and expanded in vitro with relative abundance, cells expressed typical surface markers (CD49e, CD90 and CD29). Topically, ASC inoculation provided more rapid wound healing than bone marrow-mesenchymal stromal cells and controls. [ACS Nano] Abstract

Poly (3-Hydroxyalkanoates)-Co-(6-Hydroxyhexanoate) Hydrogel Promotes Angiogenesis and Collagen Deposition during Cutaneous Wound Healing in Rats
Investigators report the accelerative wound healing potential of biocompatible poly(3-hydroxyalkanoates)-co-(6-hydroxyhexanoate) composite hydrogel. [Biomed Mater] Abstract

Immunogenicity and Functional Evaluation of iPSC-Derived Organs for Transplantation
Researchers generated induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived skin, islet, and heart representing three germ layers of the body through 4n complementation and evaluated their immunogenicity and therapeutic efficacy. [Cell Disc] Full Article

Keratin-Dependent Regulation of Aire and Gene Expression in Skin Tumor Keratinocytes
Researchers report that autoimmune regulator (Aire), a transcriptional regulator, is inducibly expressed in human and mouse tumor keratinocytes in a K17-dependent manner and is required for timely onset of Gli2-induced skin tumorigenesis in mice. [Nat Genet] Abstract

In Vitro Modeling of Hyperpigmentation Associated to Neurofibromatosis Type 1 Using Melanocytes Derived from Human Embryonic Stem Cells
The authors demonstrated that neurofibromatosis type 1 melanocytes reproduced the hyperpigmentation phenotype in vitro, and further characterized the link between loss of heterozygosity and the typical “Café-au-lait” macules that appear over the general hyperpigmentation. [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA] Abstract

Combining an Aurora Kinase Inhibitor and a Death Receptor Ligand/Agonist Antibody Triggers Apoptosis in Melanoma Cells and Prevents Tumor Growth in Preclinical Mouse Models
Scientists combined treatment with an aurora kinase A inhibitor, MLN8237, with agents that activate death receptors (Apo2L/TRAIL or death receptor 5 agonists) and monitored the ability of this treatment to induce tumor apoptosis and melanoma tumor regression using human cell lines and patient derived xenograft mouse models. [Clin Cancer Res] Abstract

Decreased Expression of Caveolin-1 Contributes to the Pathogenesis of Psoriasiform Dermatitis in Mice
Scientists examined caveolin-1 expression in the psoriatic epidermis and investigated its role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. [J Invest Dermatol] Abstract

Increased RIPK4 Expression Is Associated with Progression and Poor Prognosis in Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients
The authors report the potential clinical implication and biological functions of receptor interacting protein kinase 4 (RIPK4) in cervical squamous cell carcinoma. [Sci Rep] Full Article

Naringenin Inhibits UVB Irradiation-Induced Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in the Skin of Hairless Mice
Researchers investigated the potential of naringenin to mitigate ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation-induced inflammation and oxidative damage in the skin of hairless mice. [J Nat Prod] Abstract

Regulation of Type I-Interferon Responses in the Human Epidermal Melanocyte Cell Line SKMEL Infected by the Ross River Alphavirus
Scientists demonstrated for the first time that SKMEL-28 melanocyte cell line was susceptible to Ross River alphavirus (RRV) infection and displayed major cytopathic activities and that RRV interfered with the interferon-type I response by altering nuclear translocation of pSTAT1 and pSTAT2 in infected SKMEL-28. [Cytokine] Abstract

Novel Functions of the Anticoagulant Activated Protein C in Maintaining Skin Barrier Integrity to Impact on Skin Disease
Activated protein C (APC) or its precursor, protein C, is abundantly expressed by skin epidermal keratinocytes and stimulates their proliferation and migration, and inhibits apoptosis and inflammation, leading to a healing phenotype. APC also increases the barrier function of keratinocytes by promoting expression and cell-cell contact redistribution of tight junction proteins. [Pathobiology] Full Article
