DERMAL STEM CELLS & TISSUE REGENERATION

Aberrant Notch Signaling Contributes to Hypertrophic Scar Formation by Modulating the Phenotype of Keratinocytes
Researchers found that Notch1, Notch intracellular domain, Jagged1, and Hes-1 were overexpressed in the epidermis of patients with hypertrophic scar. [Exp Dermatol] Abstract

PHF11 Expression and Cellular Distribution Is Regulated by the Toll-Like Receptor 3 Ligand Polyinosinic:Polycytidylic Acid in HaCaT Keratinocytes
In addition to a role for PHF11 in lymphocyte gene expression, investigators showed that PHF11 was part of the keratinocyte innate immune response by poly(I:C). [BMC Immunol] Full Article

Fibroblast-Loaded Cholecyst-Derived Scaffold Induces Faster Healing of Full Thickness Burn Wound in Rabbit
Scientists examined the use of a cholecyst scaffold for preparing bio-artificial grafts by loading homologous fibroblasts. The healing potential was evaluated in a rabbit model of full thickness skin-burn wound. [J Biomater Appl] Abstract

Anti-Wrinkle Effects of a Tuna Heart H2O Fraction on Hs27 Human Fibroblasts
The authors examined the anti-wrinkle effects of tuna heart extract which are mediated through the inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases in skin cells. [Int J Mol Med] Abstract | Download Full Article

    SKIN CANCERS & DISORDERS

    MicroRNA-3151 Inactivates TP53 in BRAF-Mutated Human Malignancies
Researchers showed that B-Raf proto-oncogene serine/threonine kinase (BRAF) mutations in both malignant melanoma and papillary thyroid cancer drive increased expression of oncomiR-3151, which is coactivated by the SP1/NF-κB complex. [Proc Natl Acad Sci USA] Abstract

ETS Family Transcriptional Regulators Drive Chromatin Dynamics and Malignancy in Squamous Cell Carcinomas
By in vivo super-enhancer and transcriptional profiling, the authors uncovered a dynamic cancer-specific epigenetic network selectively enriched for binding motifs of a transcription factor cohort expressed in squamous cell carcinoma stem cells. [Elife] Abstract | Full Article

Encorafenib (LGX818), a Potent BRAF Inhibitor, Induces Senescence Accompanied by Autophagy in BRAFV600E Melanoma Cells
Scientists showed that LGX818 potently decreased ERK phosphorylation and inhibited proliferation in BRAFV600E melanoma cell lines. [Cancer Lett] Abstract

Long Non-Coding RNA TSIX Is Up-Regulated in Scleroderma Dermal Fibroblasts and Controls Collagen mRNA Stabilization
Researchers found TSIX was overexpressed in systemic sclerosis dermal fibroblasts both in vivo and in vitro, which was inhibited by the transfection of transforming growth factor-β1 siRNA. [Exp Dermatol] Abstract
