    TOP STORY
Insulin-Producing Pancreatic Cells Created from Human Skin Cells
Scientists have successfully converted human skin cells into fully-functional pancreatic cells. They used pharmaceutical and genetic molecules to reprogram skin cells into endoderm progenitor cells—early developmental cells that have already been designated to mature into one of a number of different types of organs. DERMAL STEM CELLS & TISSUE REGENERATION

Knockout of Angiotensin AT2 Receptors Accelerates Healing but Impairs Quality
Researchers investigated effects of genetically disrupting angiotensin type 1 receptors on rate and quality of wound healing. [Aging (Albany NY)] Full Article

Visualization of Newly Synthesized Collagen In Vitro and In Vivo
Scientists developed a universal strategy to detect and localize newly deposited collagen based on its inherent association with dermatan sulfate. [Sci Rep] Full Article

ABCG2 Deficiency in Skin Impairs Re-Epithelialization in Cutaneous Wound Healing
To investigate the role of ABCG2 in cutaneous wound healing, full-thickness skin wounds were created in ABCG2 knockout and wild-type mice. The healing process was analyzed and revealed that ABCG2 deficiency in skin results in delays in wound closure and impairments in re-epithelialization. [Exp Dermatol] Abstract

Extensive Hair Shaft Growth after Mouse Whisker Follicle Isolation, Cryopreservation and Transplantation in Nude Mice
Researchers demonstrated that cryopreserved mouse whisker hair follicles maintain their hair growth potential. DMSO better cryopreserved mouse whisker follicles compared to glycerol. Cryopreserved hair follicles also maintained the hair follicle-associated-pluripotent stem cells, evidenced by P75NTR expression. [PLoS One] Full Article | Press Release

Pro-Proliferative Function of Mitochondrial Sirtuin Deacetylase SIRT3 in Human Melanoma
Researchers determined the role and functional significance of the mitochondrial sirtuin SIRT3 in melanoma. They found that compared to normal primary and immortalized human melanocytes, SIRT3 is significantly overexpressed in multiple human melanoma cells at mRNA and protein levels. [J Invest Dermatol] Abstract | Full Article

MicroRNA-10b Is a Prognostic Biomarker for Melanoma
The authors analyzed 377 microRNAs in 79 primary melanomas and 32 metastases using a split sample discovery strategy. [Mod Pathol] Abstract

Both HDAC5 and HDAC6 Are Required for the Proliferation and Metastasis of Melanoma Cells
Investigators used overexpression and knocking down lentivirus to clarify the influence of histone deacetylase (HDAC)5 and HDAC6 in melanoma development. They demonstrated both HDAC5 and HDAC6 were required for melanoma cell proliferation and metastasis through different signaling pathways. [J Transl Med] Full Article

Linearly Patterned Programmed Cell Necrosis Induced by Chronic Hypoxia Plays a Role in Melanoma Angiogenesis
Investigators demonstrated that orderly cell death provided spatial structure for early angiogenesis in the hypoxic, high-interstitial fluid pressure tumor microenvironment and the participation of linearly patterned programmed cell necrosis in nascent melanoma angiogenesis. [J Cancer] Full Article
